Background

Conditions of the Internship:

  • As of 1 January 2020, Interns may be given a stipend according to the UNDP Internship Policies, if is not financially supported by any institution or programme, such as a university, government, foundation or scholarship programme;
  • Interns are responsible for securing adequate medical insurance for the duration of the internship. UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship;
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity;
  • The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNDP but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship;
  • The intern will be evaluated at the end of the contract and due recognition of work will be issued in writing.

The Project represents a joint UNDP-UNICEF effort to advance stability and safety in the bordering communities of Gegharkunik, Vayots Dzor and Syunik regions, directly affected by Nagorno Karabakh (NK) conflict. The project will implement activities to deliver transformation at institutional (local governments, CSOs, businesses) and human development levels (skills, services, behavior). The Project will provide evidence-based interventions, addressing conflict entailed instability and vulnerabilities in the remote and isolated bordering communities to enhance human wellbeing with specific focus on the most unsafe families and groups.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall guidance of UNDP DRR Programme Manager and direct supervision of “Strengthening Stability and Resilience of the Bordering Communities in Vayots Dzor, Gegharkunik and Syunik Regions" Project Coordinator, the Intern will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Provide support in organization of trainings on disaster risk reduction (DRR) and disaster risk management (DRM);
  • Support project experts’ team in utilization of score cards of Making Cities Resilient (MCR) in Meghri, Sisian and Qajaran cities and in updating the score cards of Kapan city;
  • Provide support to NGOs in implementation of DRR projects with the focus on implementation risk reduction activities;  
  • Assist the Project’s team by taking minutes and making summaries for the Project on-line/off-line meetings, calls, events, etc.;
  • Assume administrative responsibility for organization of seminars, press conferences, workshops, board meetings and other on-line events;
  • Draft agendas and background materials, prepare leaflets;
  • Performs other duties as required.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the followingrequirements:

  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent);
  • Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.

 

Desired Experience:

  • Events organization;
  • Conducting community-based assessments;
  • Spreadsheet development and database maintenance.

 

Languages:

Good English and Armenian.  Russian is an asset.   

 

Computer Skills:

Strong computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office (MS Word, Excel, etc.).
