Travel:

UNDP will cover the cost of travel of the individual to the duty station, as well as their return to their home upon completion of their services. Travel costs are covered only in the event that the function will be undertaken physically in the duty station and excludes working from home arrangements.

Cost of other travel, as deemed necessary by UNDP  while performing the outlined functions, shall be at UNDP’s expense and in accordance with the applicable UNDP travel policy. 

 

Office/Unit/Project Description:

 

Launched at the United Nations in 2008, the Business Call to Action (BCtA) aims to accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by challenging companies to develop inclusive business models that engage people at the base of the economic pyramid (BoP) – people with less than US$8 per day in purchasing power – as consumers, producers, suppliers and distributors of goods and services.

 

The BCtA is a unique multilateral alliance among donor governments – including the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, the Swiss Development Cooperation Agency (SDC), and with the United Nations Development Programme, which hosts the secretariat.

 

Over 280 companies, ranging from multinationals to social enterprises, and working in 83 countries, have responded to the BCtA by committing to improve the lives and livelihoods of millions in developing countries through access to markets, financial services, affordable healthcare, water and sanitation, education, and other critical services. BCtA member companies are market leaders that provide examples of successful, profitable, and scalable models for reaching poor communities and contributing to global development.

 

BCtA is seeking a Programme Analyst on Innovation to support the BCtA team on a series of activities, pertaining to the implementation of BCtA’s work on inclusive innovation journey engaging businesses to solve government’s key challenges. The Programme Analyst on Innovation  will support BCtA with implementing and deploying BCtA’s activities in Colombia, Tunisia and other countries, interact with strategic partners at the country level and facilitate trainings to a broad private sector audience.

 

The Programme Analyst on Innovation  will work with the Inclusive Innovation Journey programme engaging BCtA member companies and partners to provide foundational support for facilitating the implementation of the innovation journey, coordinating workshops and relevant webinars. Under the guidance of the Head of BCtA and the focal point in UNDP country office, the Programme  Analyst on Innovation  will implement and monitor in country support to private sector organizations supported by BCtA’s partners to align practices and deliver trainings to enterprises and key stakeholders. 

 

The Programme Analyst on Innovation  will be essential to the BCtA inclusive innovation journey team maintaining the relationships with key actors at the country level and in deploying BCtA’s work on inclusive innovation with businesses and governments. The outcome of this work is the delivery of well-structured trainings and mentoring that will contribute to the alignment of private sector organizations and MSMEs operating in middle and low-income markets to integrate innovative solutions into the public services delivered to middle and low-income population, contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals

 

Furthermore, the Programme Analyst on Innovation will work with the BCtA team in engaging BCtA members to provide foundational support for improving their theories of change/results chains through conducting virtual or face-to-face impact measurement and management clinics and relevant webinars. Finally, it is expected that the incumbent will support BCtA’s team in capacity-building programmes on Impact Measurement and Management for UNDP country offices.

 

Institutional Arrangement:

The Programme Analyst, Innovation  will work under the supervision of the Programme Manager of BCtA.

Duties and Responsibilities

Scope of Work 

Under the direct supervision of the BCtA Programme Manager and in close collaboration with the other BCtA team members, the Programme Analyst on Innovation will responsible  for perfoming the following duties and responsibilities:   

Inclusive Innovation Journey

  • Be responsible for the adaptation and implementation of the BCTA Innovation Journey programme, in partnership with UNDP Country offices and local partners. 
  • Coordinate and report the results of Inclusive Innovation Journey programmatic areas that involves trainings sessions for entrepreneurs and training sessions to policy makers.
  • Structure and monitor the implementation of innovation journey workplan.
  • Support in the sector diagnostic process conducted by BCtA and its implementation partners.
  • Support the market research conducted by BCtA and its implementation partners.
  • Review the proposals that have applied to the Innovation Journey challenge.
  • Systematize relevant lessons learned and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support the identification and management of potential partners for the BCtA Innovation Journey at the country level.
  • Facilitate the invitation process and participation of national or international facilitators within the BCtA Innovation Journey.
  • Support the BCtA global team in the design of communication materials.
  • Support the development of methodologies of tools and services that contribute to the development of the BCtA Innovation Journey. 
  • Provide all the necessary technical and operational support to the local partners and the CO.
  • Monitor the BCtA Innovation Journey workplan with the BCtA Teams, the private sector focal point and the Accelerator Labs in the CO.
  • Systematize lessons learned that will inform the document on inclusive innovation and procurement in collaboration with policymakers and BCtA team in Istanbul.

Impact Measurement on Inclusive Business 

  • Support BCtA in developing and deploying BCtA’s online Impact Measurement Lab to support its inclusive businesses members and other companies implementing inclusive business.
  • As requested by the Programme Manager, provide advisory support to inclusive businesses on impact measurement and management, including guidance on theories of change/results chains and data analysis.
  • As requested by the Programme Manager, provide ongoing support to UNDP country offices on capacity-building for impact measurement.
  • Align the program and deliver trainings on impact management for BCtA’s partners and companies. 

Results Reporting and Communication 

  • Support the BCtA in coordinating annual results reporting process of BCtA’s member companies.
  • Revise and update BCtA’s results reporting framework as instructed.
  • Analyse and verify self-reported results submitted by BCtA member companies; Ensure BCtA’s indicators for results reporting are in line with other leading measurement and reporting tools;
  • Support the Programme Manager in preparing key reporting and other related documents for reporting to BCtA’s stakeholders.
  • Support the design, selection and effective implementation of external mid-term evaluation and/or final evaluation of the initiative.  
  • When requested by the Programme Manager, draft thought leadership pieces on impact measurement and management (in forms of blogs, reports, webinars and other forms of media) to position BCtA as a pioneer in the field.
  • As requested by the BCtA Secretariat, support the development of other flagship reports demonstrating progress and impact of BCtA members.

County Office and Company engagement 

  • Support targeted outreach and engagement with country offices working on impact management with companies. 
  • Support the onboarding of country level focal points, training them on the Impact Lab, providing back-office support for their roll-out of the Lab; and holding regular online impact clinics.
  • Support the organization of companies’ webinars and workshop sessions. 
  • Provide the BCtA team with research and analysis, including analysis on BCtA members engagement on impact measurement; capacity gaps; value creation for companies, and ongoing barriers.  
  • Systematize lessons learned and adjust the Impact Management tool accordingly.
  • Contribute to the creation, sharing and dissemination of BCtA’s impact management case studies.

Required Skills and Experience

Min. Academic Education

  • Master's degree in business administration, international development, public policy, social science, and economics or other relevant fields.

Min. years of relevant Work experience

  • Minimum one year of work experience in government-led innovation, processes targeting low-income communities and / or impact measurement / management / monitoring and evaluation of inclusive or sustainable businesses is required.

 

 

Required  skills

  • Proven track record with designing programs and delivering trainings to businesses, business accelerators, impact investors or non-profit organizations Is required.
  • Demonstrated experience of client-orientation, and working in complex and time-pressured contexts is required.
  • Proven track record with using technology for data collection and analysis is required

Desired additional skills

  • Experience in managing relationships and partnerships with leading businesses/impact investors or non-profit organizations is an advantage;
  • Demonstrated experience in  managing projects with private sector engagement is an advantage;
  • Experience of working with a multilateral organizations, including UN / UNDP is an advantage.

 

Required Language(s): 

  • Excellent command of English and Spanish, both written and oral, including outstanding  reporting and presentation skills.
  • Working knowledge of other UNDP languages,  preferably French is an advantage.
