Travel:

UNDP will cover the cost of travel of the individual to the duty station, as well as their return to their home upon completion of their services. Travel costs are covered only in the event that the function will be undertaken physically in the duty station and excludes working from home arrangements. 

 

Office/Unit/Project Description:

 

Launched in September 2020, the Global Fund for Coral Reefs (GFCR, is a finance instrument that blends private and public funding to support businesses and finance mechanisms that improve the health and sustainability of coral reefs and associated ecosystems while empowering local communities and enterprises. The GFCR is administratively hosted by the UN Multi Partner Trust Fund Office (MPTFO).

 

The Global Team is an independent structure under the Global Fund for Coral Reef Executive Board and and manages the day-to-day activities and operation of the Fund. While hosted within the MPTFO, the Global Team works closely with relevant focal points of the Participating UN Organizations (UNDP, UNEP, UNCDF) and the Investment asset management team.

 

The Global Team has management, technical, and operational expertise, and one of its primary roles is to develop the Fund investment plans and manage approval of project or programme proposals in accordance with financial decisions made by the GFCR Executive Board and in open collaboration with the Investment Window partners. The Global Team guarantees that successful innovative blended solutions are developed in accordance with agreed-upon objectives and criteria specified in the Terms of Reference and criteria specified in the Standard Operations Manual.

Institutional Arrangement:

The Junior Communications and Support Consultant will report to the Deputy Head of GFCR Fund Secretariat and closely collaborate with the Strategic Engagement and Communications Specialist GFCR Fund Secretariat.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Scope of Work 

 

The Junior Communication and Support Consultant will perform the following tasks:

  • Support development and implementation of the GFCR Communication Strategy and associated work plans; create and disseminate outreach materials (e.g., infographics, newsletters, mailing lists); support the maintenance of the GFCR website and other relevant portals.
  • Conduct analyses of social media and website KPIs; Coordinate with key stakeholders and partners to capture their inputs in the form of communication products.
  • Support GFCR preparation for and participation in high-level events and conferences; prepare and manage all event-related logistics, correspondence, and materials.
  • Other relevant communications and visibility-related tasks as advised by the GFCR Secretariat.

Required Skills and Experience

Min. Academic Education

  • Master’s Degree (or equivalent) in journalism, marketing, communications, political science and/or other relevant field or Bachelor’s degree with additional 2 (two) years of experience.

Min. years of relevant Work experience

  • 1 (one) year working on communications efforts on sectors related to the environment, climate, blue economy, marine conservation initiatives at national or international level, or 1 (one) year of relevant experience managing communications efforts and socal media campaigns and organizing high-level conferencies and events preferred.

Desired additional skills and competencies

  • Prior experience working with UN agencies or international organizations;
  • Prior experience working on international communications campaigns and/or high level international events;
  • Knowledge of video editing software, Adobe Photoshop, website editing/ coding;
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.

Required Language(s) (at working level)

  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Working knowledge of another UN language (French and/or Spanish) is considered an asset.
