Background

The UNDP Poverty Practice at the Regional Service Centre for Eastern and Southern Africa is looking for an outstanding graduate-level intern that will work with the Poverty and MDG Support Team at the Centre to strengthen the coordination of the response to poverty challenges in the region by providing high-quality policy advice and technical support to UNDP Country Offices, regional institutions as well as other stakeholders in the region. The selected intern will acquire direct exposure to UNDP’s work. The internship opportunity will operate under the rules and regulations of the UNDP Internship Policy.

Duties and Responsibilities

The selected intern will provide support to the work of UNDP Poverty Practice at the Regional Service Centre for Eastern and Southern Africa in the following areas: 
  • Communications, Outreach and Practice Advocacy
  • Policy Advisory and Programme Support Delivery
  • Policy Development; Practice Coordination
  • Partnership Building
  • Inclusive Growth and Poverty Reduction
  • Knowledge Management.

In this context, the comprehensive activities of the selected intern will focus on the importance of engaging partners in developing, supporting and implementing effective and responsive poverty reduction programmes at country and regional levels.

Technological Awareness:
  • Proficiency in various MS Office applications and other IT applications. Proficiency in STATA software is an asset.

Required Skills and Experience

Education and Experience:

  • Graduate-level degree (Master’s degree) in Economics, International Development or other related areas from a recognized university.
  • Demonstrated interest in the field of development and relevant research experience and publications record.

Language:

  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
