Background

2010-2015 UNFPA Country Programme for Uzbekistan supports national efforts on strengthening capacity of national institutions to provide quality gender-sensitive life-skills based education, information, and youth friendly services on sexual and reproductive health and HIV/AIDS prevention. In this context Youth Project Assistant facilitates smooth implementation of Annual Work Plan of UZB3R51A project and contributes for further strengthening young people related programme component and especially activities of national Y-Peer network on peer education for SRH and HIV prevention.

Under direct supervision of NPO on Gender and Youth issues the Youth Project Assistant works on the formulation, design, and implementation of the youth related activities of the country programme.

Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties will include:
  • Substantially contribute to analyzing political, socio-economic, population and health situation relevant to young people and identify strategic areas for UNFPA interventions;
  • Significantly contribute to formulation and design of youth related programme activities;
  • Work closely with Y-PEER International network and other youth networks in the region, keep office updated and incorporate latest developments into programme activities in sphere of youth sexual and reproductive health (SRH);
  • Coordinate regular updating of content for Y-PEER Uzbekistan web site; 
  • Provide assistance in analyzing, monitoring and reporting on implementation of the youth project/activities, monitor project expenditures and disbursement to ensure delivery is in line with approved budgets; 
  • Provide expertise and facilitate advocacy relevant to youth in particular through assisting in preparation of relevant information for evidence-based advocacy; 
  • Contribute to analyzing resource mobilization environment with regard to youth activities, identify opportunities for resource mobilization, assist in drafting proposals and follow up on their implementation;
  • Maintain close working relationship with national and international counterparts and UN agencies involved into implementation of the youth activities, with special attention to collaboration with national youth NGOs;
  • Serve as Focal Point for youth participation in UNFPA-supported activities, sharing knowledge and information and liaising with the programme staff to assist in the development of programme interventions in the thematic area;
  • Assist in the organization and conduct of trainings for youth on SRH and HIV prevention;
  • Facilitate the work of consultants, advisors and experts involved in implementation of the projects under her/his responsibility; 
  • Provide input into development of programme reports both through drafting of the relevant parts and providing expertise on youth issues; 
  • Contribute into implementation of communication activities on youth.

Required Skills and Experience

Education: Completed secondary education.
Experience: At least 2 years of relevant experience in design and/or implementation of youth-related programmes and projects. Experience with projects or programmes implemented by multinational or bilateral donors are an asset.
Language Requirements: Fluency in oral and written English and Russian. Good knowledge of Uzbek.
