Background
The UNDP has been responsible for the implementation of the EU funded Programme Partnership for the Future since 2001. The UNDP-PFF aims at contributing to the peace-building process in Cyprus through different levels of intervention including urban infrastructure rehabilitation, community development and assistance to cultural heritage initiatives and medium-sized enterprises.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the overall supervision and guidance of the Programme Manager, the Communication Officer is responsible for carrying out the following duties within the UNDP-Partnership for the Future projects:
- Assist/ Support the implementation of the UNDP-PFF programme activities as assigned by the Programme Manager;
- Assist in the development of a communications strategy for the programme in line with HQ, regional and donors’ communication priorities;
- Work proactively with, programme and project teams to identify opportunities for capturing and sharing knowledge, and disseminating information about major progress and results;
- Research and identify media stories, write and edit media releases, and feature stories within tight timeframes which consistently meet agreed corporate standards;
- Responsible for managing and regularly updating the content of the UNDP-PFF website and for the quality of the content;
- Manage PFF profiles on social networks (Facebook, YouTube, Flickr) daily with information about project activities and events;
- Produce flipcam videos and/or commissions films for capturing project results/issues for UNDP-PFF and other websites like YouTube. Also mentor programme staff to produce project videos for the website;
- Prepare media outreach materials for the UNDP-PFF Programme: press releases, text for brochures/ project summaries/ success stories;
- Assist with the planning, organization of special events, outreach / promotional activities and public and targeted group presentations;
- Build network partnerships and supporting outreach programmes;
- Collect and maintain project photographs and related materials.
- Assist in the drafting and editing of the annual review of the Cyprus Strategy Note, Integrated Work Plan, Annual Work Plan and strategy papers, project documents and project proposals;
- Provide support to ensure that programme formulation and design is consistent with the requirements of results-based management;
- Prepare Terms of References for consultants / Request for Proposals / Request for Quotations etc as assigned by the Programme Manager;
- Represent the Programme Manager at Country Team meeting when required;
- Assists in project procurement related activities.
- Assist in administrative activities as require;
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Programme Manager.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
- Secondary education;
- University degree in Communications / Public Relations / Journalism or related field will be strong asset.
Experience:
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in communication or related field (secondary school) or at least 3 years of relevant experience in communication or related field (university degree);
- Prior experience with the UNDP (or another UN Agency or International Organization) in communication is an asset;
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office) - Proficiency in relevant office computer applications Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Web Site Editing Software.
Language skills:
- Fluent in English with excellent analytical / drafting / communication skills;
- Greek and / or Turkish is an asset.
Other requirements:
- Nationals or others legally authorized to work in Cyprus.
