Background
The UNDP Office of Human Resources (OHR), Staff Well being Unit supports dual career and staff mobility through sponsoring workshops for the New York based expatriate Spouses/Partners of UN staff members. Each workshop will have approximately 25 participants. These participants will be relatively new to New York, new to a job search or have not had success in finding employment. There will be a series of seven workshops given in the spring and fall of each year. Each workshop will last three hours. The consultancy will be for two years on a retainer basis.
Duties and Responsibilities
- To familiarize the participants with the job situation on the regular job market in the New York area, and within the UN system organizations
- Enhance the reflection on the skills and competencies they need in the competitive job hunting market;
- Help individual attendees identify and resolve specific problems particular to their situation;
- Provide for the attendees useful resources to facilitate their job search;
- Perform a yearly study on the impact of the workshops on the participants;
Tasks:
- To develop a series of five to seven half day career support workshops for expatriate spouses and partners of UN staff members;
- To conduct the career support workshops twice a year;
- The workshops should incorporate the topics on understanding how to job search in the US and United Nations Common System; characteristics of the US job market and American cultural values; how to write a competency based resume; competency based interviewing techniques and job interview preparation; and networking cross-culturally;
- Track attendance, spouse/partner UN Agency affiliation and where and what type of job the successful workshop applicants got;
- Provide the UNDP OHR Staff Well being Unit with a report containing statistics and feedback upon the completion of each workshop series;

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
- Advanced University Degree (Master’s) in Human Resources management, Social Work, Psychology, or other related field.
Experience:
- Demonstrate proficiency in designing and facilitating of career support workshops;
- In-depth knowledge of the US/NYC job market and good knowledge of the UN job market;
- Familiarity with the G-4 visa situation of UN staff members’ spouses
- Intercultural sensitivity;
- Previous working experience with the an UN system organisations an asset;
Languages:
- Fluency in English essential; knowledge of French and/or Spanish an asset
Proposal submission:
- A short proposal emphasizing the most important points of the career support workshops;
- A summary of your professional background that supports your skills and competencies as noted above;
- Provide at least one client reference;
- Your per diem rate for requested services.
