Background
Launched by the United Nations in July 2000, the UN Global Compact is both a policy platform and a practical framework for companies that are committed to sustainability and responsible business practices. The Global Compact Networks are clusters of Global Compact participants who come together to advance the initiative at regional or local level. Their role is to support companies in their efforts in implementing the Global Compact, while also creating opportunities for multi-stakeholder engagement and collective action. The Global Compact Brazilian Committee (CBPG in Portuguese) was created in 2003. It is a voluntary group with the objective of promoting the Global Compact Principles in the management of enterprises operating in Brazil, as a means of strengthening corporate social responsibility in the country. UNDP Brazil is the focal point of the Global Compact in Brazil and supports the CBPG activities. In January 2013 the two year term of office of the elected Board of Directors, composed of representatives of Braskem, CPFL, Itaipu, Petrobras and ISAE-Parana has begun.Under the overall guidance of Board of Directors of CBPG the Executive Secretary will provide leadership in the implementation and execution of the 2013-2014 Strategic Plan for the Global Compact network in Brazil and technical support to the work of CBPG and to the Brazilian Local Network. The contract to be offered is a service contract from UNDP, subject to its administrative supervision by the organization as well its own rules and regulations.
The Executive Secretary works in close collaboration with the Global Compact Brazilian Committee, and its Executive Board, as well as with the focal point in Brazil for Global Compact initiative - UNDP Country Office - as required, exchanging information and supporting program implementation.
Duties and Responsibilities
Summary of Key Functions:- Organize, convene and participate in ordinary and extraordinary meetings of the CBPG and the Board of Directors of the Brazilian network; represent the CBPG in national or international meetings and events;
- Liaise with the enterprises of the CBPG, of the Brazilian Local Network, UNDP and the United Nations, and articulate initiatives with public institutions and other organizations promoting CBPG capacity as a reliable partner to national counterparts;
- Follow up the implementation of the Strategic Plan and ensure coordination of sectoral activities of the CBPG task forces;
- Follow up of the management of the contributions of the members of the CBPG and / or the Brazilian Local Network according to UNDP rules and regulations and as stated in the cost sharing agreement letter.
- Facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing advocacy for GC principles and Millennium Development Goals.
1. Convene and organize ordinary and extraordinary meetings of the CBPG and the Board of Directors of the Brazilian network and represent the CBPG in national or international meetings and events ;
- Organize meetings of CBPG, Commissions, training workshops and events, like the Annual Meeting of the Brazilian Network.
- Revise minutes of CBPG and Board meetings and reports in consultation with UNDP;
- Represent CBPG as required by the Board of Directors or the CBPG
- Participate in meetings of CBPG Task Forces.
2. Liaise with the enterprises of the Brazilian network, UNDP and the United Nations and articulate initiatives with public institutions and other organizations;
- Facilitate new membership
- Training and capacity building of new signatories of the Global Compact
- Control of compliance with Communications of Progress
-Articulate Global Compact initiatives with public institutions and other organizations
- Dissemination of Global Compact Principles
- Coordinate with UNDP contacts and relationships with other UN agencies and with the Global Compact Office
- Contributes to the Secretariat of the Global Compact activities and related global initiatives.
3. Follow up the implementation of the of the Strategic Plan;
- Manage the achievement of targets established by CBPG concerning the growth in the number of signatories, and other indicators established in the Strategic Planning
- Development of strategic partnerships to mobilize resources;
- Monitoring of initiatives approved by the strategic planning, including planned activities, time schedules, targets and budgets
- Articulate the task-force work plans with the strategic planning of CBPG
4. Using data provided by UNDP, follow up of the management of the contributions of the members of the CBPG according to UNDP rules and regulations as stated in the cost sharing agreement letter.
- Formulation of budget proposal for the year
- Monitoring of budget and proposal of budgets revisions
- Follow up of payment of CBPG contributions to the Secretariat in Brazil or the Global Compact Foundation in NY
-Promotes fund raising for CBPG activities
5. Ensures facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing focusing on achievement of the following results:
- Holding of training workshops to actual or potential signatories.
- Identification, synthesis and dissemination of best practices and lessons learned.
- Supervision of updates of contents of the internet site of the Global Compact – Brazil.
- Preparation of status and progress reports
- Supports the establishment of communication mechanisms among CBPG members
Impact of Results
The key results have an impact on the overall efficiency of Brazilian Committee of the Global Compact and on the success in implementation of its strategies. Accurate analysis, data entry and presentation of information contribute to proper implementation of the CBPG Strategic Planning.

Education
Post graduate studies or MBA or Master’s Degree or higher degree in Management, Social Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability, International Relations, Law, Political Science, Economics, Marketing or related sciences.
Master’s Degree and PhD in Administration, Marketing or fields related to sustainability issues will be considered an asset.
Specialization in Social Corporate Responsibility or Sustainability is a plus.
Experience
5 years of relevant experience at national or international level including managerial experience and/or management of multi stakeholder network. Each additional year will be considered but only up to 10 years of experience.
Proven experience in dealing with management level and company boards.
Proven experience in the area of corporate social responsibility.
Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, PPT, etc)
Previous working experience with the United Nations or any of its initiatives is an asset
Experience working in the private sector, social responsibility, fund raising or mobilization of the private sector will also be considered an asset.
Language Requirements
Fluency in Portuguese. Working knowledge in English (speaking, reading and writing). Working knowledge of Spanish.
Fluency in English is highly desirable. Fluency in Spanish will be considered a plus.
