Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women's rights at the center of all its efforts, UN Women leads and coordinates United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world.

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Operations Manager, the Human Resources Consultant provides support to UN Women Kenya Country office and Regional Office in the administration and implementation of regulations, rules, policies, strategies and guidelines regarding Human Resource Management, ensuring effectiveness and efficiency, integrity, transparency and quality of service.

Duties and Responsibilities

Implementation of HR services focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Preparation of job descriptions and vacancy announcements;
  • Preparation of post establishment documents;
  • Recruitment as per the approved organogramme (beginning from long listing of applications, shortlisting by panelists, organizing written tests and interviews including preparation of interview repots, conducting reference checks and preparation of documents for appropriate compliance review panels);
  • Contracting selected candidates (including medical clearances and onboarding of candidates);
  • Maintenance of Human Resource Roster;
  • Induction/orientation of new staff;
  • Record management of recruitments and other Human Resource records.
Change Management Support
  • Conduct needs assessment for change management support required;
  • Organize learning sessions as per the identified needs;
  • Support UN Women staff in career coaching/ career advancement by arranging sessions;
  • Identify keys needs for career advancement and also where the organization may provide support;
  • Assistance with interview skills;
  • Assistance with curriculum vitae writing skills (improving/ drafting of cv’s).
Outputs/ Deliverables  
  • Recruitment of staff as per the organogramme for UN Women Kenya Office and Regional Office;
  • Updated HR Roster;
  • Induction/Orientation Plan;
  • Tracking system for recruitments.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:
  • University Degree in Business or Public Administration. Specialized training in Human Resource Management would be preferable.

Experience:

  • Five years of experience at the National or International level in Human Resource management and recruitment and selection;
  • Knowledge of UN Human Resource rules and Regulations will be an asset.

Language:

  • Fluent in English.

Contract and Remuneration:

An Individual Contract (IC) will be issued in accordance with UN Women rules and regulations. The Human Resources Consultant shall be paid a monthly remuneration as per the agreed contract.

Payment will be made at the end of each month on certification of duties performed.

Note:

In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system (DAW, OSAGI, INSTRAW and UNIFEM), which focused exclusively on gender equality and women's empowerment.
