Background

The humanitarian situation in South Sudan remains precarious. OCHA’s role is to support humanitarian actors to ensure that relief assistance reaches the people who need it in a timely and effective manner. OCHA’s support includes reporting on the humanitarian situation and raising awareness on humanitarian needs and gaps in the provision of assistance.

Duties and Responsibilities

The National Reports Officer will work under the guidance of the Head of Office and direct supervision of the Head of the Communications Unit in South Sudan.

Under the supervision of the Head of Communications, the National Reports Officer will be responsible for the preparation of reports and public information products as follows:
  • Draft and edit articles for OCHA South Sudan publications including the Consolidated Appeal Process, and the CHF Annual Report;
  • Coordinate the drafting of articles by humanitarian partners for OCHA South Sudan publications;
  • Coordinate the production of OCHA South Sudan publications and corporate website, as needed; 
  • Compile data and support the production of OCHA outreach and informational material 
  • Work within the Communications Unit to coordinate, build on and manage relations with the media, particularly the national media in South Sudan;
  • Compile and process data from a wide variety of sources and prepare a range of reports and humanitarian briefings for public dissemination;
  • Update and maintain contact information and mailing lists;
  • Provide detailed and accurate minutes of coordination meetings as required, including the CHF Advisory Board.
The National Reports Officer will be responsible for the following duties in relation to humanitarian financing:
  • Manage, compile and process the preparation of regular updates and reports on the progress and achievements of projects funded through the CHF and Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) for the preparation of mid-term and annual reports;
  • Manage, compile and process relevant inputs for the development and review of the Consolidated Appeal Process (CAP) document;
Perform any other duties as may be assigned.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:
  • Masters degree in Business Administration, Social Economics, Development Studies, Sociology, Political Science, Public Administration, International Studies or related field.

Experience:

  • At least 2 years experience in a similar position with an international organization engaged in relief work in South Sudan, or equivalent experience with a media organization covering humanitarian and financial issues;
  • Proven leadership and management skills and ability to work as a team member;
  • Proven strong report writing and drafting skills.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in oral and written English is essential. Knowledge of Arabic, although not mandatory, would be an added advantage.
