Background

The Office of Communications at UNDP is at the forefront of advancing online communications and outreach within the organization and is seeking a graduate student with an interest in global issues and communications to assist in organizing and evaluating web content and web sites for UNDP’s online global network.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Web team in the implementation of a corporate Content Management System across www.undp.org; ensuring that content migrated to the new platform is accurate and up to date; verifying and cross-checking meta information and related links; editing stories, images and video where necessary; writing or developing texts as needed; liaising with the rest of the team to ensure consistency across languages;
  • Assist the  French Web editor in maintaining contacts with content providers in order to solicit material for Web site, and/or for approval of drafts;
  • Help evaluate web content and web architecture of country and global web sites;
  • Correspond with Country Offices concerning web best practices;
  • Use social media such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube to extend UNDP’s reach;
  • Assist with other related tasks as needed.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:
  • Enrollment in a graduate degree programme in a development or communications-related field, such as journalism, interactive telecommunications, international relations, political science, anthropology, sociology, public or business administration.
Language:
  • Fluency in written and spoken French and English (Spanish/Arabic desirable).
Experience:
  • Web experience is an asset.
Availability:
  • Must be available at least three days a week.
Conditions:
  • Interns are considered gratis personnel. They are not staff members;
  • Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP. The costs associated must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his or her own arrangements for travel, accommodation, visa, etc.
The successful candidate will be required to:
  • Bring a certificate from her school that s/he is enrolled in a Master's programme;
  • Have a valid visa to work in the US;
  • Have medical and life insurance.
