Background

The project builds-up and strengthens the institutional capacities of the Ministry of Economy and Trade with respect to economic policy formulation, public sector management and control, private sector development and other related matters falling within the competences of the Ministry. The objectives will be accomplished through two specific outputs:
  • Economic research and knowledge for enhanced policy formulation and implementation developed; and
  • MoET high impact delivery capacity for efficient transfer of skills to the administration enhanced.
 The expected activities of the project are designed to fit the latest institutional and operational needs foreseen by the MoET in the short to medium terms and fall under activity two of the new Project Document namely: Institutional Capacity of the Ministry of Economy and Trade developed and enhanced.
 
The Trade Consultant will be working under the direction of the Minister of Economy and Trade and the supervision of the UNDP Project Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Consultant shall be in charge of mapping all trade institutional, regulations, and legislations requirements related to the conformity and compliance of exported Lebanese products with the international market access requirements. He shall identify the major trade partners and evaluate their market access regulations, assess the needed changes in regulations or procedures and draw recommendations. Accordingly he will set up a trade map summarizing export requirements down to partner country and category of products whenever it is relevant. These activities will be accomplished in coordination with the International Relations team of the UNDP Project at the Ministry of Economy and Trade.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Graduate Degree (Master or equivalent) in Economics or Masters in Business Administration.

Experience:

  • Relevant experience of minimum 10 years

Language Requirements:

  • Demonstrated communication skills included proficiency in Arabic and English Languages. French is a plus.
