Background
The UN Resident Coordinator System is aimed at strengthening coordination among UN Agencies to enhance the impact of development and humanitarian activities, as well as to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the operational activities. For this purpose, it promotes a coordinated multidisciplinary approach to the needs of recipient countries, under the leadership of the UN Resident Coordinator (RC). The coordination of operational activities is based on the comparative advantages of each UN entity in its area of expertise, and includes sharing of information, joint planning for collaborative activities, common approaches to cross cutting issues, and harmonization of programme cycles.The United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in Jordan joins forces to provide a well-coordinated, focused, and coherent response to Jordan’s development and humanitarian challenges. The UN system in Jordan develops programmes and operations in collaboration with the Government and other national stakeholders. Programmatically and operationally, the UNCT in Jordan comes together under the umbrella of the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF). The implementation of the Jordan’s third UNDAF 2013-2017 focuses on the following 4 strategic areas: i. Enhancing Systematic Reform; ii. Ensuring Social Equity; iii. Investing in Young People; iv. Preserving the Environment.
The Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) provides the strategic directions to the UN Country Team (UNCT) and aims to coordinate joint initiatives, and pool the maximum of financial and human resources in the most efficient and effective manner.
Duties and Responsibilities
Support the RC and UNCT in the UNDAF implementation, focusing on the following results:
- Liaise on a day to day basis with the UN staff, including participation in UNDAF Working Group meetings;
- Provide secretariat services for the organization of UNDAF Working Group meetings, including help prepare the agenda for the meetings and draft minutes, as requested; provide the RCO with reports on key discussions of the Working Groups, highlighting criticalities, findings and recommendations;
- Support analysis of thematic issues and data related to Working Groups priority areas, as requested by his/her supervisor and co-chairs of the Working Groups;
- Ensure that background documentation and reporting documents for the RCO are provided as needed.
Perform junior support functions in the RCO related to the multiple activities carried out by the office, and in line with the priorities, focusing on the achievement of the following results:
- Assist the RCO in the day-to-day systematization of the activities and support knowledge management, making sure that documentation is timely drafted and policies and analysis are shared within the unit, as appropriate;
- Draft updates for the RC on issues of development and socio-economic relevance;
- Support communication and RC advocacy initiatives, with the preparation of materials and tools, in collaboration with the Communication officer;
- Provide assistance to the RC and Coordination Specialist in drafting correspondence, preparing briefings on issues relevant to the UNCT activities;
- Make arrangements for UNCT meetings and other interagency meetings and initiatives; ensure that relevant documentation is prepared and available for UNCT members;
- Assist the RCO in supporting the organization of non-resident Agencies held in Amman, including preparation of notes and summary of his/her supervisor, as required;
- Elaborate researches on specific topics, UN events, relevant policies and other issues.
Assist the RCO in the effort to efficiently coordinate between development and humanitarian agencies, and in supporting the coordination of activities in favour of the host communities, focusing on the achievement of the following results:
- Support the preparation of presentations, background materials on host communities; regularly update data and other relevant documents on the host communities;
- Support the RCO in the organization of consultations for the operationalization and roll-out of the UN strategy for host communities and the host community platform, as appropriate;
- Attend HCT meetings as observer, reporting back to the RC; prepare summaries on HCT meetings outcomes and decisions;
- Support the supervisor in identifying opportunities to enhance cooperation between UN humanitarian and development agencies;
- Collect reports, assessments, and key analysis on the host communities, and the non-humanitarian aspects related to the impact of the Syrian crisis on national institutions.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
- University degree in international relations, political science, social science or any other related field.
Experience:
- At least 1 year of experience with UN agencies or international organizations;
- Computer skills: Excellent knowledge of office software, presentation software, internet and social media.
Language:
- Fluency in English (verbal and written).
