Background

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Chief, Online and Multimedia, the Web Editor Consultant is part of the web team in the Office of Communications. He/she will contribute to the implementation of UNDP’s corporate strategy for the Web, maintaining the UNDP corporate website on a daily basis but also ensuring that UNDP’s web presence can significantly be enhanced over time.

Duties and Responsibilities

Editing / Producing:
  • Provide assistance in curating and presenting stories, images and videos in UNDP’s web content management system;
  • Review and edit web stories, headlines and captions in French and English, liaising with the rest of the team to ensure consistency across languages.
  • Work with content providers to research or rewrite material from the standpoint of reader interest, clarity, political sensitivity, thoroughness and accuracy, as well as relevance to UNDP’s focus areas;
  • Assist in the production of French-language material for social media platforms;
  • Assist in reviewing translations in English and French, proofreading and reformulating if necessary for optimal web presentation.

Competencies

Competencies:
  • Solid writing and editing skills in French and English;
  • Previous experience in editing and presenting copy for the web;
  • Previous knowledge of web content management system required, preferably Adobe CQ5
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task;
  • Attention to detail is crucial;
  • Responsible, responsive, and enthusiastic;
  • Interest in global issues and the United Nations;
  • Must be able to work in a multi-cultural environment and be aware of political sensitivities.

Required Skills and Experience

Education: 
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in communications, journalism, international relations, fine arts or related fields.
Experience:
  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience in communications, journalism or multimedia, including significant experience with web publishing, including Content Management Systems, preferably Adobe CQ5;
  • Working knowledge of photo editing software;
  • Knowledge of online social networking highly desired.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in spoken and written French and English.

VIII. Evaluation:

Shortlisted candidates will be rated according to the following criteria:

Weight/Criterion

  • 40% - Previous experience editing and presenting French and English copy in plain language
  • 40% - Good understanding of online communications needs and excellent attention to detail
  • 20% - Knowledge of web content systems

NB: Only candidates obtaining a minimum of 70% in the Technical Evaluation would be considered for the Financial Evaluation

Cumulative Analysis will be used in determining the best candidate for this assignment. When using this weighted scoring method, the award of the contract is made to the individual consultant whose offer has been evaluated and determined as responsive/compliant/acceptable, and having received the highest score out of a pre-determined set of weighted technical and financial criteria:

Technical Criteria weight: 70%
Financial Criteria weight: 30%
