Background

UN WOMEN, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
 

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Administrative and Facilities Specialist, the intern will be trained in the implementation of procurement and operational strategies including supporting the timely, effective and accurate procurement services to clients in the procurement process. 

UN-Women Internship Conditions:

  • UN WOMEN will not pay for the internship; all the expenses connected with it will be borne by the intern;
  • UN WOMEN accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship; The Intern must provide proof of enrolment in a health insurance plan;
  • The Intern will not be eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UN WOMEN during the period of the internship or for the six months immediately following the expiration date thereof;
  • The Intern will be personally responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;

Duties and Responsibilities

Learn the facilitation of day-to-day Administrative & Management business processes focusing on the achievement of the following results:

  •  Support and learn the procurement process by developing a thorough comprehension for the procedures and operating guidelines;
  • Understand the compliance of the procurement activities with UNWOMEN rules, regulations, policies, and strategies;
  • Learn how to procure goods, works, and services with efficiency and transparency;
  • Assist in the drafting of contract documents and agreements upon award of contract;
  • Train on how to proactively exchange information on a variety of procurement actions and client services;
  • Assist the Procurement Facilities and Administrative Services (FAS) desk in building up the data base for suppliers;
  • Train to monitor the different FAS procurement and ensure quality delivery by the suppliers;
  • Assist with the submission of the section Procurement Plan, Purchase Request for goods, Bills of Quantities, Terms Reference and other documents necessary to commence with the bidding process.
Knowledge building and knowledge sharing, focusing on achievement of the following results:
  • Increasing the understanding of UN Women’s work and the UN system;
  • Learning different aspects of premise management and emissions monitoring in an international environment;
  • Meeting and networking with UN Women colleagues in other units;
  • Work as a team member in a multicultural setting.

Required Skills and Experience

Education and certification:
  • Public Administration, Business, Finance, and/or International Studies;

Experience and Skills:

  • Experience in training event activities and working in an international environment with the Ability to write clearly and concisely;
  • Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrate ability to work harmoniously with staff members of different national and cultural backgrounds;
  • The usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and knowledge of database packages is preferable.

Language:

  • Fluent in English.
