Advancing women’s economic security and rights is a priority programming area for UN Women - supporting women to reshape conditions at both ends of the economic spectrum — from increasing and expanding women’s participation in economic policy-making and related research and analysis, to supporting organisations and movements of rural agricultural producers and market traders, to have their economically productive ‘work’, acknowledged and enabled through commitment to accelerated implementation of CEDAW Article 14 and MDG’s, decent work standards and occupational health and safety standards.   UN Women has a well-established Markets for Change project being implemented through country specific project design for Fiji, Solomon islands and Vanuatu. The projects are based on three years of scoping, consultations, surveys and participatory planning and knowledge building. Core M4C project strategies  include making national and local governance more gender responsive, supporting the organisation, agency and social and economic empowerment of women market vendors and informal traders, institutionalising dialogue for shared planning, decision-making and budgeting, and mobilising Private Public Partnerships for gender responsive Local Economic Development.
