Background

Description of the assignment:  UNDP Libya is seeking a qualified and motivated candidate for the position of International Media Trainer to be based in Tripoli and to work with General National Congress (GNC). The International consultant will be responsible to provide technical advice to GNC communication department, responsible for designing and delivering training for journalists covering the GNC activities and for GNC secretariat staff on media drafting, in accordance with the training plan developed by the GNC training department.

Project name: Strengthening Capacities of GNC Parliamentary Administration.
 Period of assignment/services:  15 working days (10 days in Tripoli and 5 days home based).

Duties and Responsibilities

The International Media Trainer will be responsible for the following functions:
  • Developing and delivering two trainings: she/he shall design and provide two trainings a) first training for journalists covering the GNC activities and b) second training to the GNC secretariat staff working within the communication department on media drafting (articles for the GNC web site, Press releases, interviews and other communication documents) in accordance with the training plan developed by the GNC training department;
  • Implementation: She/he shall support and ensure quality implementation of the two training;
  • Reporting: she/he shall prepare and submit a report on the two trainings including evaluation, list of participants;
  • Representation: She/he shall observe political impartiality, display UNDP values;
  • Miscellaneous: The media trainer is expected to maintain strong relations with GNC and other related stakeholders and shall perform any other task consistent with the scope and objectives of the project, as directed by UNDP.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:
  • An advanced university degree (masters or equivalent) in in Communication, information sciences, journalism or related field
Experience:
  • 10 years of functionally-related professional communication/journalism experience;
  • Relevant experience in delivering and designing trainings for professionals (Journalists) 
  • Excellent background communication including drafting stories and press releases;
  • Experience in designing and delivering trainings;
  • Track record of working with elected assemblies is an advantage;
  • Good background experience including familiarity with UNDP systems, and regulations is desirable
  • Experience with UN Agencies is an asset.
Language Skills:
  • Fluency (both spoken and written) in English and Arabic.
