Background

The Gender, Peace and Security (GPS) is a two-year project aimed at enhancing UN Women’s support to key Government and non-government partners on strengthening capacities to respond to gender, peace and security concerns in Zimbabwe.  The GPS’ overall development goal is contributing to national priorities in good governance for sustainable development. This outcome is aligned to UN Women’s Global Strategic Plan, Development Result 4 on Increasing women’s leadership in peace, security and humanitarian response, and also to ZUNDAF Outcome 1.2 on Strengthening mechanisms for peace building and for the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts. The three identified focus areas for the project are: (i) women’s participation at all levels of peace and security policy making; (ii) strengthening capacities of security sector actors to respond to gender insecurities and (iii) supporting mechanisms for peace building at the community level. UN Women is supporting the effective implementation of international gender and security provisions and the response to gender insecurities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in conducting background research for project proposals, and in project development activities on gender, peace and security issues;
  • Update the fund-raising database and identify key donors for specific project funding;
  • Compile a directory of contacts by means of the interactive database;
  • Assisting in the organization of conferences, forums or other collaborative events with security sector actors and national women’s organisations;
  • Assist in preparing annual work plans and results framework and in implementing for delivery of results for the program;
  • Assist with programme procurement processes through providing administrative support;
  • Produce articles and write ups on the programme and its results;
  • Assist in developing funding proposals, provide inputs for feedback to donor queries and concerns, and contribute to any other resource mobilization efforts of the Country Office;
  • Support the financial and substantive tracking and assessment of programme/projects implementation progress;
  • Financial and administrative monitoring and evaluation of the project, identification of operational and financial problems and development of solutions;
  • Provides accounting and administrative support to the project;
  • Ensures financial and administrative controls, assessing whether they are operating as per policies, procedures according to UN Women regulations;
  • Ensures maintenance and inventory control of all project assets;
  • Maintains good working relations with implementing partners, local authorities; and UN agencies for implementing joint programmes;
  • Efficient filling/documentation of project documents, work plans, progress reports, budgets and other implementation documents;
  • Undertake any tasks as requested by the Representative.

  • Written analysis of programme work and its results;
  • Demonstrated report writing and computer literacy skills;
  • Stakeholder and donor data base;
  • Workshop and meeting reports;
  • Draft work plans and concept notes.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:
  • University degree in Developmental studies, Gender studies, Law, and /or other related social science fields; Possession of a Masters Degree would be an added advantage;
Experience:
  • 3 years experience in Gender Based Violence and Access to survivor services is an added advantage;
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.)

 Language

  • Fluent in spoken and written English;
  • Fluency in the United Nations and national language of the duty station is mandatory.
