Background

The UNV EVAW program associate plays a substantive role in the UN Women programming for Gender Equality with a special focus on EVAW programs. S/he assesses and analyses relevant political, social and economic trends and provides input to program formulation, monitoring and evaluation, joint programming initiatives, and facilitates rapid implementation of EVAW programming in national development framework. The officer must effectively influence counterparts from diverse backgrounds to jointly contribute to achieving UN Women’s mandate as it relates to gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collect, compile, and analyse relevant data to identify trends, patterns and social support systems (socio-cultural practises, norms and beliefs) nationwide that sustain the prevailing culture of GBV;
  • Work closely with Ministry of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development to support the operationalization of the National Gender Based Violence strategy;
  • Assist to facilitate inter-agency, multi-sectoral GBV Coordination mechanisms at national, regional, and local levels, as necessary;
  • Support to consolidate existing assessments on the GBV situation and/or work with relevant agencies and the displaced and host populations to conduct relevant participatory analyses of GBV;
  •  Prepare monthly reports that capture relevant information and support the analysis and evaluation of programme progress and outcomes;
  •  Identify existing survivor services and recommend strategies for scaling up to ensure increase access;
  •  Assist in development of relevant advocacy and policy documents to address GBV in the context of broader gender inequalities and women’s empowerment issues;
  •  Assist in preparations of annual review meetings, conferences, evaluations, special advocacy campaigns, and events such as the 16 days of activism;
  •  Assist in developing funding proposals, provide inputs for feedback to donor queries and concerns, and contribute to any other resource mobilization efforts of the Country Office;
  • Support the financial and substantive tracking and assessment of programme/projects implementation progress;
  • Financial and administrative monitoring and evaluation of the project, identification of operational and financial problems and development of solutions;
  • Provides accounting and administrative support to the project;
  • Ensures financial and administrative controls, assessing whether they are operating as per policies, procedures according to UN Women regulations;
  • Ensures maintenance and inventory control of all project assets;
  • Maintains good working relations with implementing partners, local authorities; and UN agencies for implementing joint programmes;
  • Efficient filling/documentation of project documents, work plans, progress reports, budgets and other implementation documents;
  • Undertake any tasks as requested by the EVAW specialist and the Deputy Country Representative.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:
  • A University degree or equivalent in Development Studies, Gender studies, Social Sciences or related field is preferable;
  •  Possession of a Masters Degree would be an added advantage;
Experience:
  • 3 years of relevant experience at the National or International level in project management, monitoring and evaluation of development projects.
Language:
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
