Background

Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager and close coordination with the Field Management Officer, Thematic Team Leaders and the Early Recovery Specialist, the Area Manager is responsible for the coordination and management of UNDP’s area based strategies and interventions. The Area Manager analyzes political, social and economic trends and advises UNDP office accordingly; builds partnerships in the field; and coordinates the formulation, management and monitoring of area based strategies, plans and interventions. S/He ensures achievements of results within the timeline, allocated budget and according to UNDP quality standards. S/He liaises with relevant partners and stakeholders and supervises and guides field staff, ensuring quality reporting on implementation.

Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinates area based socio-economic analyses and planning and propose relevant strategies and implementation plans;
Manages area-based implementation ensuring achievement of results according to UNDP quality standards, rules and procedures;
Coordinates UNDP area-based activities internally with various thematic portfolios and externally with other UN agencies, civil society, local authorities and any other local stakeholder;
Perform other tasks as requested by supervisor.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Bachelor degree in Business Administration, Management, Social Sciences, Development Studies.

Experience:

Six (6) years of professional experience in the field of development;
Hands-on experience in design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of development projects;
Field experience in the field of local development is a strong asset;
Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages.

Language Requirements:

Fluency in both Arabic and English.
