Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

The UN Women Training Centre (TC) in Santo Domingo is. dedicated to supporting the UN and other stakeholders to realize commitments to gender equality, women’s empowerment and women’s rights through transformative training and learning. The UN Women TC offers training for gender equality and women’s empowerment to UN Women staff, UN agencies, as well as personnel of governments, civil society and partners. The gender capacity-development programmes will range from basic and introductory levels to specialized and advanced levels for diverse audiences with different backgrounds. In terms of capacity-development strategies and techniques, the TC will make maximum use of on-line training techniques, paying special attention to e-learning courses and an active learning approach.

The Training Centre also promotes articulation and knowledge exchange among gender training specialists and other relevant groups and the development of tools and materials in the area of training for gender equality. In addition, it supports the documentation of existing good practices and innovative processes, as well as discussion and analysis of training methodologies and approaches directed towards contributing to ongoing capacity development as a concrete means for achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment.

The main objective of this consultancy is to support the development, delivery and evaluation of training materials and activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Training Programme Coordinator, the consultant will be responsible for the following:

Activity 1
  • Support roll out of Evaluation tools and data entry into database for courses and participants.
Products/Outputs: TC staff trained on the use of evaluation tools. Evaluation tools applied to courses and feeding into course reports and database. Up to date evaluation database of courses and tools.
Activity 2
  • Support development of training courses and materials.

Products/Outputs:Satellite Module on UN Women, Peace and Security for I Know Gender course.Input and backstopping to the packaging process of SSR course modules as part of the quality assurance process.

Activity 3
  • Support development of theory of change and training methodologies.
Products/Outputs: Working paper on Evaluation of Training for Gender Equality (based on existing mappings and desk review). Input/feedback to working papers being developed on Training for Gender Equality.
Activity 4
  • Support implementation of capacity assessment processes (during the consultancy period).
Products/Outputs: Analysis of results and input for report on capacity assessment process.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:
  • Master degree in Gender and Development, Education or other related fields.
Experience:
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in Gender Equality/Mainstreaming.
  • Experience in development and delivery of Training for Gender Equality, especially in the area of Gender, Peace and Security;
  • Knowledge of Gender, Peace and Security and Security Sector Reform;
  • Knowledge of and experience in Evaluation of Training for Gender Equality;
  • Experience in working with the United Nations is desirable.
Language Requirements:
  • Excellent skills in English and Spanish, both oral and written, are required;
  • Proven and tested knowledge of another UN official language is an additional asset.
