Background
Yemen is recovering conflict and displacement and undergoes a profound political and administrative transitions. Aden is a strategic hub for southern regions and has been a center to deliver UN humanitarian relief and post-crises recovery in the southern Governorates.As humanitarian assistance moves towards resilience and development and as Yemen will be transitioning into a federal state over the next few years, UNDP strengthen its programmes and intends to support regions under the federal structure through area-based programmes, including in the southern Governorates.
Aden sub-office enables coherent management of UNDP project staff and assets as well as inter-project coordination and synergy. Support to programmes from a decentralized structure in the South helps respond to particular regional challenges, alleviate operational and programmatic difficulties and ensure coordinated, timely and effective implementation of programmes.Aden sub-office also facilitates UNDP contacts with local government, liaises with citizens and identify specific concerns and vulnerabilities in the South, as well as improve coordination of UN and I/NGOs interventions in the region, and among others deliver on UNDP’s facilitation role on Early Recovery Coordination through leadership of the sub-national early recovery cluster.
Aden sub-office is led by a head of office reporting to UNDP Yemen Country Office management.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Analyst will work under the guidance and supervision of the Head of Aden Sub-Office:
- Monitor developments and analyze political, economical and social trends in or with impact for the Southern Governorates;
- Build a strong relationship with local partners and UNDP target groups;
- Maintain regular liaison with UNDP project teams and monitor progress of UNDP activities in the Southern Governorates and prepare corresponding communication material in Arabic and in English;
- Maintain up-to-date stock of visibility material, including project factsheets, up-to-date presentations at Aden the Sub-Office;
- Organize and prepare meetings for the sub-office with all involved parties (government, UN system, technical partners, civil society, private sectors, youth organizations, etc.);
- Take meeting notes and provide minutes of meetings;
- Provide translation of short documents, letters, presentations, interpretation during meetings when necessary;
- Supervise good planning and functioning for Aden Sub-Office, in coordination with Administrative and Finance staff, including through maintaining and sharing calendar of events, visiting missions, etc.;
- Represent and deputize the Head of Sub-Office when needed;
- Assist with the preparation and coordination of Sub-Office related events/activities;
- Ensure security compliance of sub-office and personnel in coordination with the UNDP Security Unit in Sana’a and UN Department of Safety and Security;
- Support the recruitment of project staff when needed;
- Document and disseminate information on best practices, lesson learned and success stories;
- Analyze and consolidate data and prepare presentation and progress reports;
- Perform any other tasks as required.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:- Hold a Masters degree in development, political affairs, economics or any other relevant field.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of proven and solid development experience;
- Professional experience with UN agencies or other international organizations in southern Yemen would be an asset;
- Good experience in information management, drafting and editing in Arabic and English
- Good experience in management, organization and liaison with senior officials.
- Fluency in English and Arabic is required.
