Background

The United Nations Development Group (UNDG) has recently adopted a “Resilience-based Development Response to the Syria crisis,” and has established a Sub-regional Response Facility for Syria (SRFS) in Amman, Jordan, led by a Sub-regional Development Coordinator, to support its implementation. The SRFS provides timely, strategic, programmatic and organizational support to the UN Country Teams in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, and Iraq, intended to complement, add value to, and enhance their capacities to respond to the crisis without adding to their cost. The SRFS also contributes to improving sub-regional coordination with a variety of partners and enhancing cost-effectiveness.

The SRFS provides support in external relations, advocacy and communication. This stream focuses on:

  • positioning the development response as a critical and complementary component of the overall response to the Syria crisis, among key constituents including governments, sister agencies, donors and other humanitarian and development actors;
  • cultivating strategic partnerships and alliances, and maximizing technical and financial resources available, that are essential for an effective response to the crisis; and
  • ensuring improved humanitarian-development coordination and complementarity between the work of all United Nations agencies involved and other key actors.

Duties and Responsibilities

The purpose of this consultancy is to produce visually appealing info - graphics, documents, presentations, factsheets, brochures, poster maps, web graphics and other visual products in English and Arabic, which bring a sharp understanding of the UNDP “resilience-based development response to the Syria crisis”.

Main Tasks of Graphic Designer/ Infographic Expert:

Under the overall direction and guidance of the Sub regional Development Coordinator, in collaboration with the Communications Officer and the entire SRFS team, the consultant will:

  • Develop a comprehensive set of infographics related to the impact of the Syria crisis on Syria and neighboring countries, combining economic, social, geostrategic and financial information;
  • Develop a series of communication/advocacy materials related to the work of UNDP in the sub region (web, brochures, facts-sheets, annual report, etc.);
  • Contribute to the development of graphic materials – particularly infographics) for audiovisuals.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Relevant Diploma in Graphic Design or related discipline.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years in the field of Graphic Design, with particular emphasis in infographics;
  • In depth knowledge of graphic design/info graphics software. Familiar with socioeconomic data.

Language:

  • Fluency in Oral and Written English and Arabic.

Interested individual consultants must submit the following documents/information to demonstrate their qualifications:

  • Brief Proposal: (i) Explaining why they are the most suitable for the work; (ii) Provide a brief methodology on how they will approach and conduct the work;
  • Financial proposal;
  • Personal CV including past experience in similar projects and at least 3 references.

Financial proposal

The financial proposal shall specify a total lump sum amount. Payments are based upon output, i.e. upon delivery of the services specified in the TOR. Payment will be made in monthly installments.
