Background

Since 2001, the United Nations Development Programme has been responsible for the implementation of the European Union funded Programme “Partnership for the Future (PFF)”. UNDP-PFF aims at contributing to the peace- and confidence-building process in Cyprus through: cultural heritage preservation, urban infrastructure rehabilitation and community development, operational support to the Committee of Missing Persons in Cyprus (CMP), as well as implementing bi-communal projects such as the new Nicosia wastewater treatment plant.

UNDP-PFF is currently offering a placement for an intern specializing in Graphic Design. The intern will work under the supervision of the Communications and Programme Officer, who is in charge of UNDP-PFF communications, publications, and social media. The internship is ideal for students of design looking to expand their career in the field of corporate reporting and communications. It also provides good experience, knowledge of the United Nations and a network for your future professional life.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall guidance of the Communications and Programme Officer, the intern is expected to perform the following tasks:

  • Creating infographics for project reporting;
  • Designing graphs and statistics annex for project completion reports;
  • Creating new factsheets templates;
  • Assist graphic design consultants in the preparation of brochure and other visibility materials;
  • Create infographic for UNDP-PFF social media (Facebook and Twitter);
  • Other tasks as may be assigned.

  • Desire to work with and gain the confidence and respect of people with different language, national and cultural backgrounds;

  • Ability to support oneself financially for the duration of the internship.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Enrollment in a graduate-level degree programme in graphic design, communications or a related field. Only those students who will return to their studies upon completion of their internship assignments are eligible. (Letter of enrollment from school will be requested from the selected applicants).

Experience:

  • Excellent graphic design and creative skills, proficiency in design software, experience in development of statistics, charts, and social networking.

Language:

  • Written and spoken proficiency in English;
  • Fluency in Turkish and/or Greek is an asset.

Note:

UNDP does not pay for internships. The costs associated with the latter must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his or her own arrangements for travel, accommodation etc.
