Background

The Department of Political Affairs (DPA) commissioned a mission to Yemen to support the political transition in the country and oversee the implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the general supervision of the OSASG Principle Officer or his/her Administrative Officer or his/her assistant, the incumbent performs the following driving duties and related services:

  • Responsible for driving the SASG and the OSASG team , visiting dignitaries and VIP guests;
  • Meets UN official personnel at airports in the mission area and facilitates immigration and custom formalities, checking flight plans, when required;
  • Deals effectively and tactfully with officials and visitors.
  • Makes regular deliveries of parcels, documents, etc., between the UN office and other offices and institutions, e.g. Ministries, Embassies, Permanent Missions, etc.
  • Makes minor purchases and collects urgent purchases from local suppliers as requested.
  • Responsible for day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle (check oil, water, battery, brakes, etc);
  • Performs minor repairs and arranges for other maintenance and ensures that the vehicle is kept clean;
  • Records all trips, daily mileage, fuel consumption etc.;
  • Performs other duties as required.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • High School education or equivalent. Driver training with a valid driver’s license.

Experience:

  • Minimum two years of experience with a safe driving record;
  • Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans and other kinds of motorized vehicles;
  • Good knowledge of English is required;
  • Familiarity with locations of government offices, delegations, embassies etc.;
  • Ability to perform basic vehicle fault finding and carry out minor repairs.

Language:

  • Arabic with good knowledge of English.
