Background

Through research, development of knowledge products and engagement in a variety of practical operational procurement activities, the Intern will learn about the development and impact of procurement operations, policies and strategies in an international organization and the ways in which it is implemented in practice.

Duties and Responsibilities

To be trained in the implementation of operational procurement and continuous improvement in the sourcing business objective and goals focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Understand the compliance of procurement activities with UN Women rules, regulations, policies and procedures;
  • Support the Implementation and  harmonization standards within UN Women to enable efficiencies, effective controls and organization spend management/reporting;
  • Assist procurement personnel during high value sourcing decisions, including the bidding and negotiation process;                                
  • Proactive exchange of information on a variety of procurement process and transaction issues to clients.

To be trained in the management of procurement services to clients, focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Follow-up with product developments and deadlines;
  • Learn  the recording of all steps to ensure full transparency and accountability;
  • Up-to-date knowledge of relevant market developments, analysis of procurement needs and vendor performance Management;
  • Proper filing for audit trail on behalf of UN Women stakeholders;
  • Analysis of procurement needs and historical procurement data.

To be trained in the provision of support to the procurement processesfocusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Learn the preparation of procurement plans for the office, projects and their implementation monitoring;
  • Learn how to conduct full procurement process from definition of needs through to contract administration;
  • Support and learn to prepare RFQs, ITBs or RFPs for procurement tender notices i.e., and the evaluation process;
  • Assist in the recording of all steps to ensure transparency and accountability;
  • Support to the procurement unit and learn the process of updating the rosters of suppliers;
  • To be trained in the maintenance of organization wide real time data of all contracts and agreements.

Required Skills and Experience

Education and Certification:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent) or Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected;
  • Must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.

Work Experience:

  •  Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.).
  •  Knowledge of database packages is preferable.

Language Requirements

  • Fluency in written and spoken English including any UN language.

Conditions:

    • UN Women will not pay for the internship; all the expenses connected with it will be borne by the intern.
    • UN Women accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship; The Intern must provide proof of enrolment in a health insurance plan;
    • The Intern will not be eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UN Women during the period of my internship or for the six months immediately following the expiration date thereof;
    • The Intern will be personally responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed.
