Background

UNDP partners with people at all levels of society to help build nations that can withstand crisis, and drive and sustain the kind of growth that improves the quality of life for everyone. With offices in more than 170 countries and territories, we offer global perspective and local insight to help empower lives and build resilient nations.

UNDP has worked in India since 1951 in virtually all areas of human development from democratic governance, to poverty eradication, to sustainable energy and environmental management. UNDP’s programmes are aligned directly with national priorities and are reviewed and adjusted annually.
UNDP India’s communications unit develops and implements communications strategies to reach out to the media and other key constituencies with UNDP’s core messages and attempts to position UNDP as a thought leader on issues of poverty reduction, inclusion, environment and climate change.

The Communications unit also supports the Resident Coordinator’s office, implementing with other UN agencies, monthly advocacy campaigns launched by the United Nations Country Team in India. Each month, these campaigns draw attention to pressing issues of inclusion, energy access, poverty eradication, social justice and achieving the MDGs in India. For more information on the campaigns, visit the UN in India website: in.one.un.org.
