UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. 

About the HeForShe Campaign

HeForShe is a solidarity movement for gender equality developed by UN Women to engage men and boys as advocates and agents of change for the achievement of gender equality and women’s rights. The campaign’s premise is that gender inequality is not only a women’s issue but a human rights issue, the resolution of which will benefit both women and men- socially, politically and economically.  Over the next 12 months till September 2015, the HeForShe solidarity movements intends to mobilize one billion men and boys, bringing together one half of humanity in support of the other half of humanity for the benefit of all.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the HeForShe Project Coordinator, the HeForShe campaign is recruiting three interns to undertake the following specific tasks:

  • Contribute to the development of an innovative youth engagement strategy and implementation plans; and support roll-out on college campuses globally;
  • Provide day-to-day management of the HeForShe Youth Leader’s Network on Facebook;
  • Provide research support to the social media team in the development of content that appeals and inspires young people;
  • Assist with planning of HeForShe events nationally and globally.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Current enrollment or recent completion (not more than one year) of a Master’s or PhD degree programme (law, human rights, international relations, politics, gender or other relevant disciplines).

Experience:

  • Experience in youth focused engagement and campaign mobilization a must;
  • Experience in event-planning is a considerable asset;
  • Strong computer skills, Word, Excel, Power Point and website management;
  • Expertise in human rights an asset.

Language: 

  • Fluency in English.

Conditions:

  • UN Women will not pay for the internship; all the expenses connected with it will be borne by the intern;
  • UN Women accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship; The Intern must provide proof of enrolment in a health insurance plan;
  • The Intern will not be eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UN Women during the period of my internship or for the six months immediately following the expiration date thereof;
  • The Intern will be personally responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed.
