Background

The  content writer will be responsible for creating content for the HeForShe campaign. The content writer is responsible for generating content that drives interaction. She/he oversees all external/internal HeForShe content across printed, online and digital formats including blog posts, social media content, whitepapers, case studies, web content, emails, video scripts and fact sheets.

The content writer will also be responsible for creating the title tags and meta descriptions for content written. We want a talented writer who is a fast learner, willing to learn SEO techniques to incorporate them into content, and a team player.

Duties and Responsibilities

Planning:

  • Pinpoint relevant content themes and create compelling content that will resonate with target audiences;
  • Develop a rolling editorial calendar that maps out content development plans. Research relevant content.

Generating content:

  • Write, edit and create content. Repurpose content as needed;
  • Ensure all content is on-brand, consistent in terms of style, quality and tone of voice, and optimized for search and user experience for all channels of content including online, social media, email, video, print (whitepapers, case studies, fact sheets) and in-person.

Content review:

  • Work with owners of particular content to review, check and measure particular content and campaign goals. Conduct ongoing usability tests to gauge content effectiveness.

PR content:

  • Manage / review content for PR agencies and media outlets.

Social Media:

  • Support online manager with content across social media channels.

Web-site content management:

  • Maintain database and ensure content is posted to the HeForShe website and social media platform in a time-bound manner.

About the HeForShe Campaign:

HeForShe is a solidarity movement for gender equality developed by UN Women to engage men and boys as advocates and agents of change for the achievement of gender equality and women’s rights. The campaign’s premise is that gender inequality is not only a women’s issue but a human rights issue, the resolution of which will benefit both women and men- socially, politically and economically.  Over the next 12 months till September 2015, the HeForShe solidarity movements intends to mobilize one billion men and boys, bringing together one half of humanity in support of the other half of humanity for the benefit of all.

Required Skills and Experience

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism or related field and 3-5 years experience or an equivalent combination.

Experience:

  • Experience in creating/editing range of documents, correcting any grammatical, typographical, or compositional errors;
  • Familiarity with search engine optimization and best practices for website content development;
  • Expertise in taking and incorporating feedback to work;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously with a sense of urgency;
  • Experience in areas related to gender issues.

Language Requirements: 

  • Fluency in oral and demonstrated superior writing skills in English is required;
  • Proficiency in another UN working language is desirable.
