Background

The Regional Bureau for Arab States (RBAS) based in New York serves as the headquarters for UNDP regional programmes, country offices in 17 Arab countries and the Occupied Palestinian Territories. UNDP’s work in the region emphasizes the priority concerns of gender equality, the protection of human rights, youth employment, knowledge sharing, water governance, climate change and fighting corruption

RBAS is supporting the UNDP office in Yemen in organizing a conference in Washington DC on November 18 on the role of the Yemeni private sector in economic development/resilience for peacebuilding in Yemen. RBAS is seeking the services of an intern to provide substantive and logistical support to the organization of the conference.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of a Senior Programme Adviser and in coordination with a Programme Specialist:

  • Research and compilation of background documentation, in support to the preparation of presentation material for the conference
  • Overall logistical and coordination support to the organization of the conference, in collaboration with colleagues based in Washington and/or Yemen.

Functional Competencies:

  • Multi-tasking abilities and discipline with deadlines;
  • Computer literacy in standard software applications (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Power Point) and familiarity with Internet-based research;
  • Ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds.
  • Excellent analytical skills;
  • Excellent drafting skills;
  • Detail oriented.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Candidate must be enrolled in a Master’s level program related to international development.

Experience:

  • Previous working/intern experience in the field of development cooperation is an asset.

Language:

  • Fluency in English necessary.

 

Availability:

  •  Must be available 5 days a week during the internship period

Conditions:

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP and are not considered staff;
  • Interns need to provide to UNDP a proof of current/recent enrollment in a Master's programme;
  • Interns need to have a valid visa to work in the US;
  • Interns need to have medical and life insurance.
