Background

UNDP’s Regional Centre for Europe and the CIS is UNDP`s advisory hub for the Europe and CIS region tasked with the responsibility to provide policy and programmatic support to UNDP´s development activities in the region. Throughout UNDP´s focus areas, it works towards increasing the impact of UNDP´s activities in the region by assisting Country Offices in development of country-level initiatives through advisory services and technical support and by implementing regional-level projects in partnership with a wide range of partners supported to a global network of expertise. 

Under the leadership of the Director, the RBEC Regional Centre employs will a multi-disciplinary team of specialists and advisors, project managers, operations and programme support staff. 

Under the guidance and supervision of the Head of General Administration, the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services to the Director, high-ranking UN/UNDP officials, the Center’s staff and visitors ensuring highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. The Driver also demonstrates a client-oriented approach, courtesy, tact and ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds

Duties and Responsibilities

Summary of Key Functions:
 

  1. Provision of reliable and secure driving services
  2. Proper use of official UNDP vehicle(s);
  3. Day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle(s);
  4. Availability of documents/ supplies.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures provision of reliable and safe driving services by driving office vehicles for the transport of UNDP staff, high-ranking officials and visitors;
  • Delivery and collection of mail, documents, informs staff on schedule of diplomatic pouch; collection and disbursement of diplomatic pouch, directs incoming correspondence to appropriate staff members;
  • Meeting officials and visitors at the airport;
  • Provide assistance with visas and customs formalities arrangement when required;
  • Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports;
  • Arranges for registration of new vehicles; comprehensive and third party insurance; assists international staff members in obtaining driving license and other necessary vehicle-related documents in accordance with the requirements of the United Nations and local authorities;
  • Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle(s);
  • Performs custom clearance services for all shipments, receives shipping documents, deals with shipping companies and customs offices, draft letters on behalf of UNDP, provides other clerical assistance to unit;
  • Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc.;
  • Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:    

  • Secondary Education; 
  • Valid Driver’s license. 


Experience:    

  • Minimum three years’ work of relevant experience; 
  • Safe driving record; 
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair; 
  • Experience in driving the senior management of international organizations or large private sector companies is an asset; 
  • Computer literacy (min: WORD, EXCELL) is required.

Language Requirements:    

  • Fluency in Turkish and English.
