Background

The Bureau of Management (BoM) supports management for development results. The BoM Directorate enhances the institutional effectiveness through the strategic direction and coordination of the work of all BoM Units as well as integrated services cutting across multiple management areas.

The Management Specialist produces in-depth, cross-cutting and integrated analysis covering results and management aspects. The Management Specialist reports to the Chief, Directorate.

Duties and Responsibilities

Lead integrated results planning and monitoring

  • Prepare and maintain cross-cutting and integrated analysis in line with UNDP’s Integrated Results and Resources Framework;
  • Provide strategic management advice based on analysis of bottlenecks, risks and opportunities;
  • Monitor corporate as well as BoM-specific indicators and prepare periodic reports.

Contribute to UNDP’s openness and transparency commitments

  • Ensure the availability and accuracy of datasets in line with international standards (e.g. IATI);
  • Collaborate in the further development of standards and represent UNDP in relevant technical bodies;
  • Advocate for increased promulgation of data with due respect to UNDP’s information disclosure policy.

Enhance project management concepts, system and tools

  • Collaborate with relevant units inside and outside BoM in the further enhancement of project management concepts, system and tools;
  • Innovate around project management and its link to corporate planning systems;
  • Lead specific cross-disciplinary teams and work streams tasked with data management.

Build capacity for analysis and project management

  • Train and support country offices and headquarters units in the use and application of corporate system for results management and analysis;
  • Draft relevant prescriptive content, prepare process guides and manuals, and training presentations and materials.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Master's or equivalent in development studies, law, international affairs or management discipline; relevant professional certifications in project management, accounting or procurement desirable.

Experience:

  • 7 years of professional experience in the preparation of complex, cross-cutting analysis required; understanding of international development data and openness regimes highly desirable;
  • Experience in the design and maintenance of corporate systems and knowledge platforms desirable.

Language Requirements:

  • Excellent verbal and drafting skills in English required;
  • Knowledge of other UN languages desirable.
