UNDP is a key partner to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and is the UN agency assuming the role of Principal Recipient of Global Fund grants in Sudan. As the Principle Recipient of 4 current grants, UNDP is managing the largest fund portfolio in the Arab region. In its role as Principle Recipient, UNDP ensures quality financial management, timely procurement of supplies and service delivery as well as efficient monitoring and evaluation of grant implementation activities.

The UNDP/Global Fund Programme Management Unit (PMU) uses progress reports, media advocacy, its website, fact sheets, advocacy papers, special events and other publications to report on the impact of UNDP’s contribution in Sudan to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and to expand the development dialogue in Sudan. A key part of UNDP’s communications strategy is to improve the quality of reporting to donors, decision makers and other interested parties a clear picture of UNDP Sudan’s PMU achievements.

UNDP Sudan produces reports and other documents for donor reporting, programme needs and informing others about its work. These reports are published from the Country Office and at the project level.

The UNDP Sudan PMU is looking for qualified editors who will be contracted as Individual Contractor (IC) to edit documents, reports, and other communication materials.

The UNDP PMU is contracting a consultant with high level of skills and experience in professional editing of technical documents in the area of public health/development and non-technical documents to support its communication needs. A Long Term Agreement (LTA) will be signed with the selected consultant and when a/set of document(s) is ready for editing, a contract for the specific assignment will be signed between UNDP and the consultant.

Main tasks of the consultant

Under the overall supervision of the PMU Programme Manager, the consultant will edit UNDP’s reports, documents, and other communication materials. About 4500-5000 pages is expected to be send for editing in a period of 3 years. However, no guarantee of minimum assignments can be given in advance. Usually, the documents produced by PMU have narrative texts, figures, tables, and pictures.

Inputs

Editing involves as well filling in gaps in the information, restructuring and rewriting. The head of the communications unit and relevant unit staff shall provide the editor additional inputs and support if required to complete the task.

Time schedules

This LTA shall come into effect for a period of 3 years from the date of signing the agreement by UNDP.

For each assignment, the PMU shall agree with the consultant a specific time-line that will be binding for the consultant.  The consultant shall provide UNDP Sudan PMU draft documents before the deadline to the PMU to provide sufficient time for document review and incorporating suggested changes for review.

Deliverables:

High quality printing ready professionally edited documents, reports and other communication materials under each assignment/purchase order in this LTA.

Competencies

Functional Competencies:

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English;
  • Proven track record over a period of 3 years in professional writing, proof reading and editing;
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines;
  • Ability to work independent with minimum supervision.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience;
  • Experience in professional editing of technical documents in public health/development;
  • Previous experience editing for UN agencies in the area of health is an asset;
  • Experience in professional editing of technical documents in public health/development;
  • Editing skills including being able to understand issues related to the health sector in Sudan is an asset.

Language:

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English
