Background

UN Women is the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women with the objective of providing support to national partners in implementation of international commitments; financial and technical assistance to innovative programs and strategies that promote women’s empowerment and gender equality; and leadership and coordination in UN country teams on their response to gender equality and women’s empowerment. UN Women’s East and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO) is seeking for a highly motivated and self-driven individual for a short-term assignment to for the Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) Programme.

Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Advisor on Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) programme and in collaboration with the wider WEE team, the Programme Assistant will ensure effective programme support to the WEE programme.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide quality and efficient programme and administrative support to the WEE programme design and implementation;
  • Support  resource mobilization and donor reporting activities;
  • Facilitate knowledge building and knowledge sharing;
  • Organize, compile and process information and ensure proper filing and record management;
  • Provide logistical support and services to the WEE team;
  • Provide ATLAS support in the creation of e-procurement, voucher verification and purchasing for travel, meetings and new vendors;
  • Organize and follow-up (including taking minutes and filing of minutes and records) regular WEE meetings.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • University degree in Business or Public Administration, Economics, Political Sciences or Social Science.

Experience:

  • 5 years of progressively responsible administrative or programme experience is required at the national or international level, preferably in a UN context;
  • Experience in working in a computer environment using multiple office software packages;
  • Experience in ATLAS an advantage.

Language Requirement:

  • Fluency in English is required;
  • Working knowledge of another UN official language is an asset.
