Background

The Communications Section at UN Women Headquarters in New York seeks to enlist a part-time Social Media Consultant to support with social media outreach and community management in Spanish and French. S/he will assist the Social Media Manager in implementing strategies and campaigns for specific international days and events. S/he will draft messages for Twitter, Facebook, and other relevant platforms in Spanish and French, as well as support with the daily engagement of UN Women’s social media audience and the monitoring thereof.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Social Media Manager, the Social Media Consultant will be responsible for the following:

  • Maintain UN Women’s social media accounts by drafting messages for @ONUMujeres and @ONUFemmes, facebook.com/onumujeres and facebook.com/onufemmes, and other relevant social media platforms;
  • Monitor all social media accounts for questions and comments, respond to them and engage the UN Women audience on a daily basis;
  • Strategically expand the network of followers and engage the online community;
  • Support social media outreach and integration into big events with UN Women involvement that require additional capacity, such as the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW);
  • Support live tweeting from relevant events in Spanish and French.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Masters Degree in Communications, Journalism, International Affairs, or similar.

Experience:

  • At least 2 years experience in communications;
  • Proven experience in the strategic use and monitoring of social media;
  • Proficient in using new technologies and web-based platforms;
  • Familiar with women’s rights issues;
  • Familiar with the United Nations and UN Women;
  • Self-starter; organized; able to multitask and balance multiple responsibilities.

Language:

  • Fluent in English, Spanish and French.
