Background

The Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy (BERA) leads and supports the organization in cultivating, building and nurturing strategic relationships and alliances that are essential for advancing and successfully achieving the mission of UNDP. Within BERA, the Communications Group leads and manages external communications through strategy, media, digital communications, marketing, branding and global storytelling. Strong media outreach, public events, and other multimedia advocacy tools are an important element of that work.

The Video Analyst is part of the Media and Advocacy Team in the Communications Group. Reporting to the Manager, Media and Advocacy, he/she is responsible for all aspects of video production in coordination with relevant Country Offices and other UNDP Bureaus on both short and long form videos and clips. He/she is also responsible for filming UNDP activities and interviews with UNDP staff. He/she is responsible for the dissemination of all video products for multimedia platforms.

Duties and Responsibilities

Produce high-quality videos promoting UNDP’s programmatic work and thematic priorities:

  • Work with relevant Country Offices and other Bureaus to identify opportunities for production of videos;
  • Film, edit and script videos in close coordination with focal points;
  • Disseminate and publish final product among broadcasters and UNDP multimedia and social media platforms; and
  • Provide video support within UNDP and partners.

Produce high-quality on-camera interviews with UNDP Administrator and senior staff:

  • Film and edit interview segments of UNDP Administrator and senior staff for internal and external dissemination; and
  • Film and edit interviews with the UNDP Administrator and senior staff on behalf of external media or production houses.

Manage video database:

  • Ensure video is archived;
  • Manage all video file conversions and formats;
  • Monitor UNiFEED for b-roll in order to supplement UNDP video database;
  • Act as focal point with the UN, UN agencies and external media to share UNDP video and identify opportunities for cross promotion of UNDP video; and
  • Monitor new and innovative video equipment.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Advanced  University degree (Master’s), preferably in broadcast journalism, film, communications, social science or another related field;
  • First degree acceptable if additional two years of experience in video production.

Experience:

  • Minimum two (2) years of work experience in all aspects of video production including filming, scripting, storytelling, editing, and dissemination;
  • Experience of filming in developing countries and conflict zones;
  • Understanding of international development issues and UN required;  and
  • UNDP-specific experience is an asset.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English is required;
  • Knowledge of another UN language is an asset.

Other:

  • Knowledge of video editing: Final Cut Pro, Episode, MPEG Streamclip and similar software; and
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Package.
