Background
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women's rights at the center of all its efforts, the UN Women will lead and coordinate United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It will provide strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States' priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors.
Under the direct supervision of the UN Women Programme Specialist in the Europe and Central Asia (ECA) Regional Office (RO) and working in close consultation with UN Women Skopje office staff, the Project Coordinator is responsible for implementation of UN Women Skopje office programmatic portfolio under Impact area 1 (Leadership and Participation), Impact area 2 (Women’s economic empowerment) and Impact area 3 (Ending Violence against Women) and to support UN Women staff in Skopje office in all coordination functions on gender equality, including the marking of UN days and organization of major advocacy/awareness raising initiatives. The Project Coordinator will also be responsible for project development, management, including operation management, monitoring and reporting in the above mentioned programmatic areas.
To ensure successful UN Women interventions in the country she/he works in close collaboration with other UN agencies, government officials, technical advisors and experts, multi- and bi-lateral donors and civil society .

1.Project Implementation
- Ensure smooth implementation of UN Women programmatic activities under Impact area 1 Leadership and Participation, Impact area 2 Womens Economic Empowerment and impact area 3, Ending violence against women;
- Monitor the implementation of project activities of Implementing partner under Impact area 1, in line with the approved implementation plan;
- Support with implementation of the project activities under Impact area 3 in partnership with Ministry of Labor and Social Policy and in close coordination with UNDP and UNFPA.
- Monitor the implementation of activities with civil society organizations under Impact area 3;
- Closely cooperate with Ministry of Labor and Social Policy in the support provided for the implementation of National Strategy for Gender Equality;
- Draft Terms of reference for national and international consultants, expert institutions and Civil Society Organizations as per the need of the programmes implementation and participate in recruitment or proposal evaluation processes where relevant;
- Liaise with UN Women Regional Office and HQ for development of the methodology for Assessment of low participation of women in the labor market, planned under Impact area 2;
- Ensure proper identification of and follow up with the national experts/consultants and civil society groups/ national institutions who will be involved in the implementation of activities under the relevant impact areas;
- Provide technical support and expert advice to implementing partners, CSOs, individual experts on specific issues related to the relevant impact areas;
- Assume responsibility for the smooth functioning of all operational activities related to project implementation.
2. Monitoring and evaluation
- Assist in identifying shortfalls and bottlenecks in the implementation of planned activities, inform and propose changes to the Programme Specialist in the ECA RO;
- Ensure the proper application of a monitoring system to track and report progress on programme results and indicators;
- Follow UN Women monitoring system with project experts/consultants; prepare their evaluation and all the necessary documentation for contract closing;
- Review all quarterly narrative and financial reports submitted by implementing partners and/or institutions under Institutional contract;
- Monitor regularly implementation of project activities by visiting implementing partners in the field
- Prepare UN Women quarterly reports on the implementation of Macedonia workplan in the fields mentioned above;
- Keep records and file all documents related to planning and generation of projects and strategic documents;
3. Coordination, Programme and Technical support
- Participate, as agreed with the UN Women Skopje staff, in working meetings related to the development of the new UN Partnership Strategy for Sustainable Development – UN PSSD (2016-2020);
- Contribute to the development of the UN PSSD results framework, work with the UN Women office team and staff from other UN Agencies on completing the specific Gender Outcome and contribute with gender equality inputs in the remaining PSSD Outcomes
- Participate in the working meetings of the Human Rights and Gender Theme Group (HRGTG) and actively contribute to the implementation of the 2015 WP;
- Provide inputs on UN Women results under proper programme portfolio for UNDAF reporting Provide regular information about progress with programme implementation to UN Women Programme Specialist in the Regional Office;
- Participate in regular staff/coordination meetings of the UN Women Skopje office;
- Work in close coordination with other UN Agencies and maintain partnership with other international organization working on gender equality;
- Ensure good relations and close cooperation with UN Women partner institutions and organizations and among government and civil society;
- Liaise and coordinate with other UN Women offices in the region.
4. Other support
- Be actively involved in the organization of activities for marking UN international days and other advocacy/awareness raising initiatives supported by UN Women;
- Carry out analysis and research of information on donors, preparation of substantive briefs on possible areas of cooperation and identification of opportunities for cost-sharing;
- Follow-up on resource mobilization activities for fund raising for new projects in coordination with the UN Women Programme Specialist;
- Provide feedback and inputs on all requests from the Regional Office;
- Provide any kind of advocacy support and facilitation of knowledge building and management;
- Draft information and inputs for UN Women RO website and specifically for the page dedicated to FYR Macedonia office on all initiatives, events, programme results achieved under impact areas 1,2,3.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
- Master’s Degree in Gender Studies, Political Sciences, Social Sciences, Economics or related field.
Experience:
- 5 years relevant experience working with development projects providing management services, hands-on experience in design, monitoring and evaluation of development projects and establishing inter-relationships among international organizations and national governments, specifically in the field of gender and human rights of women.
- Prior experience in the UN System will be an asset
Language Requirements:
- Fluency in English and the national language of the duty station
