Background

The Management Consulting Team (MCT) is an internal consulting set-up within UNDP supported by a network of internal advisors who are drawn from across the organization. Its goal is to help Country Offices, other UNDP units, UN Country Teams and sister UN funds and programmes to overcome difficult organizational challenges and to improve effectiveness and efficiency.

The MCT is a demand-driven, process consulting team. On the request of clients, the MCT engages in finding solutions in a participatory manner to improve organizational effectiveness. Advisors in the network are experienced managers who have high-value skills; about 50% of MCT advisors are field-based. A coordination team, consisting of six staff members, works in Headquarters, manages client relationships, and collaborates with other units to facilitate corporate support for clients.

Under the guidance and supervision of the Coordinator of the MCT, the Management Specialist supports service delivery within the MCT service lines and contributes to development of quality content for the UNDP Management Practice including development of tools and content to address emerging change management challenges, delivery of change management support services, development of tools and materials. The Specialist promotes a client, quality and results-oriented approach – and supports senior level client relationship management roles as well as team management roles on key strategic engagements. The Specialist works in close collaboration with the MCT members in developing content and in delivery of consulting services.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and delivery of MCT services to clients;
  • Develop and disseminate tools and content in support of MCT services;
  • Facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing.

Design and delivery of MCT services to clients focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Identification, design, development and revision of MCT service lines;
  • Leadership and management of provision of quality consultancy services to headquarters units, country offices and other UN agencies as required;
  • Formulation of consulting proposals and business cases;
  • Effective project management of engagements;
  • Data collection, research, analysis and presentation of information from diverse sources;
  • Design and facilitation of workshops;
  • Organizing and preparing written outputs on behalf of the supervisors or the extended team;
  • Making presentations on assigned topics/activities;
  • Development of action plans to be used by clients in managing change;
  • Provision of guidance to external consultants;
  • Drafting end of engagement reports;
  • Following through with engagement clients.

Develop and disseminate tools and content in support of MCT services, focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Take a lead role in identifying (needs analysis), design, development and revision of tools and content in support of MCT engagements;
  • Innovative contributions to the development of change management services and content;
  • Guidance to internal and external parties in development of services and toolkits;
  • Project management by way of planning, tracking and following up on content delivery.

Facilitates knowledge building and knowledge sharing within UNDP focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Synthesis of lessons learnt and best practices in change management;
  • Review good practices in UNDP and the industry as input to development of tools supporting fact-based management in UNDP;
  • Analyze available information and proactively highlight issues related to clients’ needs thus enhancing the ability of BOM Directors to support management for development results;
  • Sound contributions to the change management networks and communities of practice;
  • Contributions to the Toolkit for Managing Change and other change management tools.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Masters degree in social sciences, political science, public or business administration, economics, information technology or related fields.

Experience:

  • Minimum seven years of progressively responsible experience is required at the national or international level;
  • Experience with change management are required. Exposure to management consulting industry a clear advantage;
  • Knowledge of the UN and UNDP in particular an advantage;
  • Successful candidates should have experience with team based management and workshop facilitation;
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, especially PeopleSoft, an advantage;
  • Experience in the usage of computers and basic office software packages (MS Word, Excel, Power point, Visio, etc.), knowledge of other software packages (MS Project, Access, etc.) an advantage.

Language Requirements:

  • Strong written and spoken English language skills. 
  • A second UN language an advantage.
