Background

N Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

Under the supervision of the Team Leader for Recruitment and Staffing, a consultant will be required to provide services in the area of recruitment, particularly in screening of applications.

Duties and Responsibilities

The main tasks will include:

  • Screen applications received on-line against the pre-determined selection criteria;
  • Record a brief justification for each applicant, explaining the reason for longlisting/not-longlisting;
  • Submit the longlist for review by the Team Leader for Recruitment and Staffing and/or other HR Specialist, as appropriate;
  • Ensure confidentiality in all procedures and exchanges of information.

The consultant will be required to perform the following tasks, as needed:

  • Create and update vacancies on the Job Management Console and notify hiring managers of job posting;
  • Provide support in dissemination of vacancies through various networks and outreach to the candidates;
  • Assist in the organization of interview panels, including coordinating the participation of candidates, identifying and inviting panelists to the interview panel and providing panelists with all relevant documentation;
  • Perform reference checks on the recommended candidates;
  • Coordinate the Compliance Review Board (CRB) meetings, by managing the membership, timing, logistics of the meetings and providing the CRB members with all related documentation;
  • Ensure that all communications are well documented and processes are managed with the utmost transparency;
  • Maintain/update recruitment status report;
  • Provide other administrative support to the HR team, as necessary.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Secondary education; university degree would be desirable, but it is not a requirement;

Experience:

  • 2-3 years of experience handling recruitment for international organizations and administrative Human Resources experience;
  • Development experience and knowledge of the United Nations policies, procedures and practices, particularly those related to human resources and operations preferable;
  • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity, including gender balance;
  • A high sense of confidentiality, diplomacy and urgency is required.

Languages:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required. Knowledge of another official UN language is highly desirable (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish).

The consultancy is open to candidates who are either US Permanent Residents, US Citizens or holders of a valid G4 visa at the time of their application and whose G4 visa has been acquired on account of their employment in the UN Systems based in New York.
