Background

The Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy (BERA) leads and supports the organization in cultivating, building and nurturing strategic relationships and alliances that are essential for advancing and successfully achieving the mission of UNDP. Within BERA, the Communications Group leads and manages external communications through strategy, media, digital communications, marketing, branding and global storytelling. The Online & Digital team within the Communications Group is responsible for implementing a comprehensive digital strategy, including UNDP’s multi-lingual corporate web site in four languages (English, French, Spanish, Arabic) and Country Office sites and partner sites; and all aspects of digital media channels with cutting-edge multi-media and social media approaches, products, services, and platforms, including increased attention to mobile platforms.

The Digital Engagement Analyst (Support/Analytics) is part of the Digital and Online Communications Group. Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Manager, he/she will contribute to the implementation of UNDP’s corporate digital strategy, developing and enhancing the UNDP digital presence on a daily basis. He/she will enhance digital efforts across the organization by developing and implementing a data driven engagement strategy, providing direct support and training on digital tools and analytics, provide support and training on content management and social media, and supporting the visual and multi-media presentation of UNDP programmatic and organizational data, analysis, stories and information for public communication on digital platforms.

Duties and Responsibilities

Digital communications support for headquarters, regional centres and country offices:

  • Support and enhance the usage of digital communications tools including Adobe CQ5, Hootsuite and Google Analytics;
  • Assist UNDP staff worldwide on best practices around digital communications, including training and support for  use of Adobe CQ5, Hootsuite and Google Analytics;
  • Suggest enhancements to the various tools and test accordingly; and
  • Provide direct, hands-on support as required to enhance the organization’s digital presence.

Digital analytics support for headquarters and country offices:

  • Develop and implement a Communications-wide measurement plan, including to monitor and analyze UNDP’s digital communications efforts using tools including Google Analytics, Hootsuite, Tweetreach, Crowdbooster, Radian6, Meltwater, etc as well as coordinate across the Group on media monitoring tools and other metrics;
  • Monitor and analyze online conversations around central development issues and identify opportunities and risks for UNDP to engage in these conversations;
  • Prepare analytics reports on a regular and ad-hoc basis that synthesize digital impact and suggest adjustments of outreach initiatives based on data; assist HQ units, regional and country offices in evaluating and enhancing their digital presence while staying in tune with the organization’s branding and identity based on findings;
  • Investigate and recommend additional tools and approaches to better use digital analytics across the organization; and
  • Work with CQ5 developers to integrate social functionality to the website.

Contributes to digital communications through visual and digital presentation of data, information, and stories:

  • Analyzes complex information, including statistics, financial information and other numerical, qualitative and quantitative data, to extract key messages and present them in visual form, including images and infographics; and
  • Contributes to visual and digital communications, including photo gathering and editing, graphic creation and presentation, and other multi-media editing if necessary including video and audio.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Master's degree or equivalent in business, communications, digital marketing, or public relations.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience of 4 years may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience at the national or international level in media, digital marketing, communications or advocacy;
  • Experience with user support/training and development of content management systems and digital analytics tools for audience development required;
  • Proven ability to visually communicate complicated ideas in a simple but appealing presentation is required; demonstrated knowledge of visual/graphic design programs strongly preferred, and experience with photo, video, and audio editing would be an advantage;
  • Previous experience with a multilateral or international organization is helpful but not mandatory, but a proven ability to learn new content and competencies quickly is required.

Language:

  • Fluency in English is required;
  • Knowledge of French and Spanish is an asset.
