Background

Indonesia is one of the world’s largest emitters of CO2, largely from “agriculture, forestry and other land use.”  Over the past five years, Indonesia’s annual rate of deforestation has been one of the largest contributors to Indonesia’s current and expected future emissions under the business-as-usual scenario. They also represent the largest opportunities to abate emissions.  The UN Office for REDD+ Coordination in Indonesia (UNORCID) has been established based on the MoU signed by the UN System and the Government of Indonesia (GoI) with a comprehensive mandate to support the GoI and numerous stakeholders in implementing Indonesia’s REDD+ and related priorities.  To date, UNDP, UNEP, UNESCO, UNOPS, ILO, UNODC, WFP, FAO, UNU, and UN Women have joined as additional parties to the MoU. Based in the UNORCID Head Office in Jakarta, the Liaison Officer will work directly under the supervision of Senior Advisor mainly for liaising with government counterparts for the preparation, delivery and reporting of the Tropical Landscape Summit 2015.  S/he will be based at the Summit Secretariate at the Office of the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM).

Duties and Responsibilities

Key responsibilities of the Liaison Officer:

  • Ensure smooth coordination with key Government of Indonesia institutions (organizing partners and others) involved in Summit preparation and implementation;
  • Maintain regular contact and communication with other involved institutions in the UN, with national representatives of the private sector/research institutions/NGOs, and other counterparts as requested;
  • Assist the office in producing public relations materials, editing reports and other promotional materials, and assist with planning, publicizing, and implementing meetings and events as requested. 

Deliverables

  • Well information flows achieved with regards to key involved GOI institutions, UN agencies and other stakeholders to be specified, in supporting the implementation of Tropical Landscape Summit 2015;
  • Report produced on the Tropical Landscape Summit, identifying suggested follow-up actions and opportunities, including feedback from organizing partners.

Required Skills and Experience

Education: 

  • Bachelor Degree in Media Studies, Literature, Communications, Journalism, and other relevant field. 

Experience:

  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience in communication, liaison works, or event coordinating;
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages for publication (Office Package, Adobe Creative Suite – especially InDesign, Photoshop and Dreamweaver – or other relevant products commonly used);
  • Experience in web-design is an advantage.

Language Requirements: 

  • Fluency in English and Bahasa, both written and spoken.
