Background

The UNDP Human Development Report Office (HDRO) produces an annual report and data on human development at the global level. The HDRO website (hdr.undp.org) is one of the primary means of communicating this report and data and engaging with a large audience on human development issues.

This consultancy consists in providing temporary support for the management of the HDRO public website and associated tools during the website manager’s maternity leave. This work includes regular website management tasks, content updates and monitoring, along with updating of other HDRO web properties. The ideal candidate has broad webmaster skills and the ability to work with a CSM such as Drupal or Wordpress. The consultant will have an introductory week with the web manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

The consultant will work on a part-time basis to perform management, monitoring and content updates using Drupal 7, Microsoft Sharepoint, Tumblr, Constant Contacts and Google Analytics. He/she will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Updating of text and multimedia content on Drupal website on a regular basis, including home page, blog and news items, in English, French and Spanish;
  • Update of Sharepoint internal site in preparation for 2015 Human Development Report launch
  • Coordination with outreach team to reach out to data users for visualizations and post them in Tumblr visualization gallery
  • Creation and mailing of bi-monthly newsletter, with content produced by the HDRO outreach team
  • Monitoring of analytics and creation of monthly analytics and performance reports for main website
  • Inform supervisor in the case of strategic or technical issues
  • In addition, the consultant will be expected to deepen his/her understanding of the information systems developed and used by HDRO in order to respond quickly and efficiently in the case of an emergency and when instructed to do so.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Advanced university degree (Master) or combination of first degree and relevant experience (7 years) in computer science, information systems management, digital communications, or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the management of CMS-based websites, particularly using Drupal;
  • Experience with Sharepoint and other Microsoft tools;
  • Strong front-end design skills including HTML, CSS, JavaScript and some graphic design;
  • Experience using GIT and working with a development environment.

Language:

  • Fluency in English is required;
  • Fluency in French and/or Spanish would be an asset.
