Background

The Resource Mobilization and Knowledge Management Assistant works with the Donor Relations Specialist in the implementation of resource mobilization and donor relations priorities, and supports efforts to create increased organizational credibility and efficiencies through improved knowledge management.  The Resource Mobilization and Knowledge Management Asistant works in close collaboration with the communications, operations, programme and project staff in the Regional Office and Country Offices as required to compile and exchange information.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of Donor Relations Specialist , the UN Volunteer - Resource Mobilization and Knowledge Management Assistant will undertake the following tasks:

 Resource Mobilization and Donor Relations

  • Support the Donor Relations Specialist in tracking and reporting on resources mobilized for the region;
  • Ensure accuracy and availability of information related to donor agreements, non-cost extensions, and resulting schedules for donor reporting to ensure compliance with donor agreements and the timely submission of reports;
  • Support the timely, results-oriented review and compilation of donor reports;
  • Support the organization of trainings for the office staff on donor reporting and resource mobilization;
  • Support gathering of regionally relevant donor intelligence, including on opportunities with the Private Sector and ensure its availability;
  • Support due diligence clearances of private sector partners, including from country offices;
  • Support fund-raising activities through public campaigns with key partners;
  • Support preparations for key donor meetings, including through the development of effective communications materials;
  • Assist in the coordination of inputs for the development of multi-country programme proposals, drawing upon country-level experience and in communication with country and multi-country office staff.

Knowledge Management

  • Draft brochures, fact sheets, and stories from the field geared toward communicating the results of UN Women programming for internal and external audiences and work with staff in Communications to ensure their publication and dissemination;
  • Support synthesis of lessons learned and promising/best practices related to programme goals, particularly in the priority areas of violence against women, political participation and leadership, economic empowerment and peace and security – making use where possible of evaluations to strengthen the evidence base of what works and to build UN Women credibility;
  • Support the development of a public database of UN Women on-going programmes and proposals –and related information on results achieved to serve as a fundraising pipeline;
  • Improve the dataset, look, and user-friendliness of the UN Women Regional Office intranet (SharePoint);
  • Support Regional and Corporate efforts to improve systems for greater efficiency using information technology.

 Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to:

  • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark IVD);
  • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
  • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;
  • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
  • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
  • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:  

  • University degree or equivalent in communications, public relations, international relations or a related field.

Experience:    

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in communications, preferably in a large or international corporation or organization;
  • Prior experience in fund-raising is a strong asset;
  • Experience working in the Latin American Region is an asset.
  • Outstanding oral and written communications and editing skills, with proven ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong ICT skills, with experience in multiple office software packages and databases – knowledge of SharePoint is a strong asset.

 Language:      

  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required;
  • Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
