Background

The project will support host and refugee communities through the implementation of sound basic urban services projects, with priority to provision of durable water and sanitation solutions, including water network improvements, increasing water supplies, grey and black water treatment, as well as reducing contamination of water sources. This will involve local actors such as municipalities and Water Establishment Offices. The Project is expected to reduce the level of tension between host population and refugees resulted from the huge demand on basic services. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of the project Officer and the Project manager, the Wash Engineer will be responsible for carrying out the following functions and tasks:

  • Review the technical documents prepared by the Regional Technical Offices (RTOs) related to concerned unions municipalities and provide support and guidance when needed;
  • Supervise the construction works of infrastructure projects ensuring that they comply the design and required technical specifications and methodology;
  • Monitor through field visits the progress and quality of implemented works;
  • Control the quality of works, safety and environmental aspects, and ensure there compliance with contract terms;
  • Support in the documentation of the implementation process of the projects;
  • Coordinate on continuous basis with Municipalities, RTOs, UN-Habitat field team, and designated contractors;
  • Provide regular updates and written reports.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Graduate degree in Civil Engineering or related field.

Experience:

  • Relevant experience of not less than 10 years in the sector of water and sanitation;
  • Experience in project management;
  • Experience of working with communities and community-based organizations;
  • Previous experience with UN agencies is an asset;
  • Previous experience working with local authorities.

Language:

  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and Fair in English.
