Background

Under the guidance and supervision of the DRR/Programme Analyst, the report writer assist the country office in evaluating the progress made in projects by consulting different stake holders to build greater confidence and trust in partners.

The Report writer will go through all ongoing projects and reporting documents (Project document, Annual Work Plans, annual reports and project evaluation reports ) to draft the progress and end report of projects. The Report writer will work in close contact with the DRR, Programme Analyst, Project Managers, and the UNDP Senior Management to finalize the report.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Report writer will write the progress, end-report for projects in line with UNDP standards and requirements;

  • Discuss with the Programme analyst, and the UNDP Senior Management to have the best understanding of UNDP report requirements;
  • Have interactions with relevant project managers as well as partners to gain additional input;
  • Draft and submit an advanced version of progress reports;
  • Submit a final report including proper layout and formatting according to UNDP standards to DRR.

Under the overall guidance of the DRR and Programme Analyst, the assistant is responsible for the following

  • Provide quality control to the project reporting process in line with UNDP guidelines, and established UN editorial procedures;
  • Editing, revising and rewriting as needed to produce high quality, timely, results-based progress and project end reports aligned with UNDP established standards and formats;
  • Review the report’s narrative and financial components in the context of the cost-sharing project cycle;
  • Prepare specific report-related feedback to programme divisions,  throughout the report preparation process;
  • Prepare specific report-related feedback for focal points and others engaged in resource mobilization, to enhance and improve donor intelligence to support those efforts, and contribute to institutional knowledge-sharing;
  • Prepare specific report-related feedback to management throughout the report preparation process, flagging problematic issues;
  • Engage fully in established processes among progress reporting colleagues to improve quality control, workflow, and efficiency; and provide ongoing feedback and input on other such innovations and improvements;
  • Produce summaries of all reports for use as UNDP knowledge products available on the projects;
  • Participate actively in reporting training meetings, briefings, discussions as required, to support UNDP Country office adherence to results-based, high-quality, timely reporting principles;
  • Prepare end-of-year acknowledgements for signature by the management thanking partners for their contributions to projects and programmes;
  • Contribute to capacity development efforts for new colleagues and editors, in collaboration with other team members;
  • Undertake any other tasks as required that relate to maintaining good donor relations through the reporting cycle;
  • Serve as back-up for team members upon request and as needed;
  • Other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor degree in journalism, media, communication, social science and business administration.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of high-level experience in writing, editing, reporting, and communicating complex programmatic information in reader-friendly formats and styles;
  • Demonstrated abilities and track record writing high-quality Arabic-language reports and information;
  • Understanding of international development, resource mobilization, and the UN context;
  • Strong ability to MS Word and Excel effectively.

Language Skills:

  • Excellent command in written and spoken English is essential.

Selection Process:

  • Short-listed candidates will be requested to participate in an interview with the selection panel;
  • The Financial Proposal with a Daily fee shall be submitted.

The selection of the Individual Consultants will be evaluated based on the following:

  • Quality of sample product submitted;
  • Price - Financial Proposal with a 2hourly Fee and Daily Fee;
  • Relevant Experience.
