Web Production Assistant (SSA)

The Communications Section at UN Women Headquarters in New York seeks to enlist a Web Production Assistant to support with content posting and proofreading of editorial content. This is an entry-level position in which s/he will assist the Web Editor and Web Manager for the UN Women global website.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the joint supervision of the Web Editor and the Web Manager, the Web Production Assistant will be responsible for the following duties and deliverables during the 4-month period:

Given the expansion of UN Women’s work, and the increasing demand for the creation of new thematic web sections, support the web production of new landing pages and or subsections and updates of existing pages on the UN Women website.

  • Detail-oriented posting of at least 10 new thematic sections and/or related subpages in all three languages over the 4-month period;
  • Careful proofreading of content for posting (ideally in English, Spanish and French);
  • Timely, attractive, meticulously checked and effective production and maintenance of thematic pages and other web content as needed.

To support UN Women’s intensive year-long Beijing+20 campaign and related web content on the UN Women website, including ahead of the determination of the post-2015 sustainable development goals during the 70th General Assembly in September.

Posting content, uploading documents and updating various UN Women pages as well as possible web production support for the Beijing+20 campaign website, as needed.

  • At least 20 documents uploaded per month over the 4-month period, on average (though there will be more in the month of September)'
  • Cross-posting of key web feature content on other platforms.

Cross-post at least 5 feature stories per month on UN Women community blogs.

  • Monitor traffic and audience analytics of UN Women web content during the 4 months, and suggest ways of improving production and/or presentation;
  • Prepare at least one analytical report of web traffic and audience behaviour;
  • Updating pre-migration content on the UN Women website within our CMS (Sitecore).
  • Fixing formatting problems on existing stories (particularly from before our migration to the Sitecore CMS);
  • At least 10 stories reformatted on the UN Women website per month.

Proactively searching for and adding or replacing missing photographs or other media.

  • Systematically revise older content for broken links or missing photos (2010-2013 in particular);
  • All photos located and updated on past stories on the UN Women website;
  • Support in other tasks as requested by Supervisors and the Communications Team.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, computer science, web development or similar (can be in process, in final stages of completion).

Experience:

  • 1-2 years of work experience;
  • Proven experience in communications and web production for websites;
  • Proficient in using new technologies, analytics tools and web-based platforms;
  • Proficiency in the use of content management systems; knowledge of Sitecore 7 is a plus;
  • Proficiency in the use of HTML and CSS;
  • Proven experience in the strategic use and monitoring of web contents;
  • Proven experience in proofreading editorial material, including the use of style guides;
  • Self-starter; organized; meticulous; able to multitask and balance multiple responsibilities;
  • Familiarity with the United Nations; UN experience is an important advantage.

Language:

  • Fluent in English;
  • Fluency in either Spanish or French (or both) is a plus.
