Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

The UN Women Training Centre (TC) in Santo Domingo is envisioned to become the UN leading centre of excellence in training for gender equality. The UN Women TC offers training for gender equality and women’s empowerment to UN Women staff, to UN agencies, as well as to government, civil society and partners. The gender capacity-development programmes range from basic and introductory levels to specialized and advanced levels for diverse audiences with different backgrounds. In terms of capacity-development strategies and techniques, the TC makes maximum use of on-line training techniques, paying special attention to e-learning courses and an active learning approach.

The Training Centre promotes articulation and knowledge exchange among gender training specialists and other relevant groups and the development of tools and materials in the area of training for gender equality. It also supports the documentation of existing good practices and innovative processes, as well as discussion and analysis of training methodologies and approaches directed towards contributing to ongoing capacity development as a concrete means for achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment.

The objective of this consultancy to conceptualize and develop a template for the Training Centre Newsletter.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Training Programme Coordinator, the consultant will be responsible for the delivery of the following:

  • Outline for Training Centre Newsletter including activities such as reviewing UN Women, UN System and other newsletters; reviewing Training Centre documentation, courses, tools and platforms; discussing different options with TC staff; and preparing a concept note and annotated outline for the Training Centre Newsletter; due by 10 June 2015;
  • Template for a Training Centre Newsletter including activities such as developing a template for a Training Centre Newsletter based on agreed criteria; due by 25 June 2015;
  • First issue of Newsletter and Guidelines for Newsletter preparation including activities such as developing the first issue of the TC newsletter in coordination with TC staff; preparing guidelines for preparing and sending TC newsletter; due by 20 July 2015.

Required Skills and Experience

Education

  • Advanced degree in Education, Communications, or other related field.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the design and management of outreach resources, and materials;
  • Experience in gender-sensitive outreach materials is highly desirable;
  • Familiarity with the UN system and specifically on gender equality and women’s empowerment within the UN system.

Language

  • Excellent skills in written and spoken English are required.
