Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

The UN Women Training Centre (TC) in Santo Domingo is envisioned to become the UN leading centre of excellence in training for gender equality. The UN Women TC offers training for gender equality and women’s empowerment to UN Women staff, to UN agencies, as well as to government, civil society and partners. The gender capacity-development programmes range from basic and introductory levels to specialized and advanced levels for diverse audiences with different backgrounds. In terms of capacity-development strategies and techniques, the TC makes maximum use of on-line training techniques, paying special attention to e-learning courses and an active learning approach.

The Training Centre promotes articulation and knowledge exchange among gender training specialists and other relevant groups and the development of tools and materials in the area of training for gender equality. It also supports the documentation of existing good practices and innovative processes, as well as discussion and analysis of training methodologies and approaches directed towards contributing to ongoing capacity development as a concrete means for achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment.

The objective of this consultancy is to support the review and improvement of training and outreach databases.

Duties and Responsibilities

Description of Responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of the Capacity Development Specialist, the consultant will be responsible for the delivery of the following:

  • Revised outreach databases for dissemination of TC courses and information including activities such as revising existing outreach databases for dissemination of TC courses and information in order to update and expand the content of the databases; due by 24 June 2015;
  • Database of regional institutions delivering gender training including activities such as further developing the database of regional institutions delivering gender training based on the existing one; due by 24 June 2015;
  • Training resources database including activities such as revising and expanding existing training resources database following criteria and guidelines to be provided; due by 24 June 2015.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Masters or equivalent in Gender, Development, or Education, Communications or other related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience in developing databases;
  • Good knowledge of gender equality policies and issues;
  • Some understanding of training for gender equality;
  • Familiarity with the UN system and specifically on gender equality and women’s empowerment within the UN system.

Language:

  • Excellent command of written and oral English and Spanish are required;
  • Knowledge of French is an additional asset.
