Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

The UN Women Training Centre (TC) in Santo Domingo is dedicated to supporting the UN and other stakeholders to realize commitments to gender equality, women’s empowerment and women’s rights through transformative training and learning. The UN Women TC offers training for gender equality and women’s empowerment to UN Women staff, UN agencies, as well as personnel of governments, civil society and partners. The gender capacity development programmes range from basic and introductory levels to specialized and advanced levels for diverse audiences with different backgrounds. In terms of capacity development strategies and techniques, the TC makes maximum use of on-line training techniques, paying special attention to e-learning courses and an active learning approach.

The Gender, Migration and Development Programme developed by the former INSTRAW aimed at furthering knowledge on the links between migration and development, using remittances, global care chains and migrant’s rights. The programme continued its focus on the changing gender dimensions of and gender roles in migration and supporting knowledge and capacity development on the feminization of migration and gender inequality in access to labor, productive resources and revenues. The Gender, Migration and Development programme focused its efforts specifically on global care chains and during its last phase on feminist economy in Latin America. In order to ensure the proper knowledge transfer to the Training Centre, the Migration project was closing with the development of a course on “Care Economy.” The content of the Care Economy was developed and peer-reviewed in English and Spanish.

In 2014, the Training Centre launched an online moderated course on care economy in English and Spanish through its eLearning Campus. The course was given from October to December to 40 learners which were selected from more than 400 applications. The course received positive feedback from course learners. Due to the increasing demand from different stakeholders and in order to fully capitalize on course materials developed last year, the Training Centre is offering the course again in 2015.

The objective of this consultancy is to support the delivery of the online moderated courses on Care Economy in English and Spanish. Support will mainly entail acting as tutor to the course, as mentored by the lead moderator.
