Background

Launched at the United Nations in 2008, the Business Call to Action (BCtA) aims to accelerate progress towards the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by challenging companies to develop inclusive business models that offer the potential for both commercial success and development impact.

The Business Call to Action (BCtA) is a global corporate leadership platform, with over 100 member companies that are incorporating inclusive business approaches in their operations to help advance the MDGs. As innovators in this space, BCtA member companies are advancing the inclusive business agenda by creating novel business models, sharing lessons learned, and forging partnerships to improve scale and increase development impact.

The BCtA global leadership platform is supported by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, the UK Department for International Development, the US Agency for International Development, and the United Nations Global Compact. The BCtA is hosted by the United Nations Development Programme.

As part of BCtA’s mission, the Outreach Coordination Analyst will support the coordination of the activities of the outreach team (including sectoral and country experts) and partner network organizations in order to ensure an effective pipeline of companies with initiatives to be accepted for membership and work closely with the Programme Manager in assisting in targeted outreach to high profile companies from the headquarters through market research and outreach activities. In addition, the Outreach Coordination Analyst will oversee the due diligence workflow for all companies in order to ensure that they meet the highest standard for membership in BCtA.

Duties and Responsibilities

Summary of Key Functions:

Coordination and Technical Support of Outreach Team and Partner Network Organizations:  

  • Provide technical support including inputs into the development of a BCtA outreach toolkit and updating of the technical information provided in the recruitment of BCtA companies by documenting lessons learnt and feedback provided by the outreach team;
  • Responsible for introductory training and providing ongoing technical support for new consultants and partner network organizations representatives;
  • Working with the Programme Manager, define outreach goals, monitor performance and workflow process of outreach team and partner network organizations; and
  • Coordinate and support the activities of the Outreach team and partner network organizations: including holding update calls, supervising reporting on activities, and offering tailored support for outreach from headquarters when necessary.

Due Diligence and Risk Management:

  • Manage the development of a finalized BCtA risk due diligence guidebook taking into account UNDP’s and partner institutions guidelines;
  • Responsible for systems of risk analysis and due diligence that will be performed for all pipeline companies prior to inviting them to join the BCtA;
  • Track corporate and partner relationships: Maintain the BCtA’s Salesforce account to track BCtA’s relationships with pipeline companies and network partners over time;
  • Ensure that all applications meet BCtA’s high standards for membership: including checking each application against BCtA eligibility criteria, providing guidance and feedback to company/outreach team to ensure that all critical points have been addressed in the application, and liaising with the Knowledge Management team and UNDP subject area experts to get input on applicant.

Support HQ Based outreach to global companies:

  • Working with the Programme Manager, assist with targeted outreach to potential BCtA member companies including identifying global companies which have inclusive businesses that meet BCtA membership criteria and engage managers in such companies that results in submitting and filling out applications for the BCtA membership platform and successful approval as members;
  • Conduct market research on various industries and sectors as needed to fulfill new company member quota; and
  • Represent the BCtA Secretariat in geography of priority where outreach would be done from HQ through participation in key events and outreach opportunities.

Support and coordinate events that BCtA leads on in inclusive business:

  • Working with the Programme Manager, assist on coordinating key inclusive business events around the globe including BCtA’s Annual Event.

Impact of Results:

The key results have an impact on the efficiency of the unit. Accurate analysis and presentation of information, thoroughly researched and fully documented work strengthens the capacity of the office and facilitates subsequent action by the supervisor. Incumbent’s own initiative is decisive in results of work and timely finalization.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Advanced University Degree (Master's) in Business Administration, International Relations, Economic Development or related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum two (2) years of combined experience in the private sector (whether in strategy consulting or corporate functions) and/or in the development sector working on private sector issues, inclusive of at least one year of experience in the area of inclusive business; 
  • Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and experience with companies with existing inclusive business initiatives and the ecosystem of support initiatives in the area of inclusive business;  
  • Good track record of work with corporate due diligence/risk management methodologies and information databases and high quality publications;
  • Familiarity with the UN and multilateral/bilateral agencies and their work in inclusive business; 
  • Experience establishing working relationships with company executives as well as professionals working in the area of business and development.

Language:

  • Fluent in English (written and spoken);
  • Fluency in another UN language is desirable.
